There is something different about our school lately. At first I thought it was just a coincidence, but then after about six months its become a trend. My school is filled with girls. Usually a male dominated class, my children's classes have twice as many females as males, 25 girls to 12 boys.
As any one else noticed this trend in your schools? Or is it just an anomaly in the space time continuum and we're living in an alternate plane of existence.

I haven't seen such a marked change, but our enrollment of girls is up noticeably in our juniors classes -- about 1/3 girls in these classes overall. It may be that you've made some changes in either your program of instruction, or in your marketing and communications, that speaks more strongly to girls and their parents than previously.
Or perhaps, given our current political and economic state, the girls are quietly organizing for world domination in the coming generation, and are training in martial arts now in preparation. I can imagine worse fates.

My classes have always been female dominated for some reason. The real change I noticed was in age. When I first started I had mostly adults and older teens. About a year into it that started changing. Now I have mostly children and younger teens.
75% of our dojo is girls. Don't know if it's a trend or they just like our sensei :D

We have about 4 or 5 women in a class of 30-50 at the dojo in which I train.

Yeah, when my son was teaching at our school, the girls came in just because of him. When he went off to college, the girls sort of melted away. That was years ago. Since I wrote that post in 2004, the girl population is still larger than the boy population but its now closer to a 50/50 ratio.
I have to say, I love teaching the girls - so quick to learn, more disciplined and attentive. They are all about technique and the precision. It's been a real treat for me.
