Which ryu defended the imperial palace in Japan? Was this the best ryu there was?

Japan was really structured in that way. There wasn't one specific ryuha that guarded the palace. It was more along the lines of retainers hired for that reason.

And no...there wasn't a "best ryu"..

Hope that helps a smidge. Please, in the future, sign your posts with your full name.

Thanks much,

Jay

I have heard that the Enshin ryu defended the imperial palace for some time, but I am not sure, it is headed by Soke Fumon Tanaka now he is very good he has a nodachi wich is about the size of me 1.8 meters i think.

The Imperial Palace had different locations at different periods of time--Nara, later Osaka (triangle area) and then in later years after 1600 (circa),namely after that at Edo(now Tokyo as you know). Various clans defended different areas of the Palace--such as outside, the walls, gates, etc . See: 47 Ronin story and movie which depicts two of the Ryu. There was to be no blood shed in the palaces and castles. This is the reason for the many rules of REI-etiquette no Katana, walk on the knees, no closer than so many feet depending on rank, etc as you know.
There is the old palace and newer one in Tokyo. These are beautiful to visit, Koi fish ponds etc.
If you mean the Shogun's Castle in Edo(Tokyo) about 1606 to late 1800's the answer is difficult because it essentially was the Tokugawa of the Minamoto Clan in the main and close family clans which changed from time to time because of marriages etc.. "Ryu" means essentially "stream "so this is difficult to say because of many streams/schools/styles.Four styles eventually grew and transformed into many others as you well know.
External security and internal at certain entrance gates was under responsibility of Yagyu Clan which had a sword ryu from Nara, Japan etc.Internal security of the dungeon and ladies quarters was under reponsibity of a woman for the first three Shoguns and the sons of the Tokugawa Shoguns. As the years went by the Aizu Clan and other trusted clans because of blood line had responsibilty in and out the Edo castle for defense.
Your question can be answered over definitive chronological years and one could actually write a book on this subject. The reason is Castle defense was an art. Masayuki Hoshina, grandson of Shogun Ieyasu Tokugawa set many defensive methods and also the fine Lady in charge of the Ladies and children's quarters--"Ofuku" was responsiblefor these areas. Also persons inside were guarded by pages of different ,loyal clans. sectors of the palaces and castle had different types of guards, musketeers, etc.
The present palace has an intricate guard system that is very secret with fireproof and bomb proof sections. Several years ago during the Ninja craze some kids acting in Ninja garb attempted entry and were caught and prosecuted.Fortunately, they were not shot because some guards are hidden from view in guards posts and they have rifles etc.
The guards are specialists with listening stations out of view--sort of like our White House Capitol Police and Secret Service guard system.
Last and most interesting the AIZU CLANS and others clans of Takedas,Yonezawas etc. did not have castles but an elaborate people system in and outside big Villas/Apartments surrounded by walking guards .Shingen Takeda was proud to say he did not need a Castle because his loyal people were his castle. There were several attempts made on his life, but failed;of course yet there were casualties. After clan Takeda was defeated by Oda Nobunaga and Tokugawas etc. there were Castles built by the new Daimyo governors such as Matsudaira, Hoshina,Takeda etc.
It is hoped I have been able to contribute to your very interesting question.

Grow up you pathetic little boy.

Some people here are quite knowledgable, and you my friend are not one of them.

Stop being a fool, people here will not stand for it. I know I find your behaviour and words on screen to be offencive and pathetic. Think of something useful to say or don't say anything at all.

I might get moaned at by a moderator or two for this. But hey-ho, to put a fool like you into line is worth it.

Grow up.

Love,

Lawrence Fisher.

SINCE WE ARE MAKING THIS PERSONAL. I WILL EXPLAIN THE ABOVE POST. AS THIS IS THE SECOND TIME I HAVE DONE THIS.

Dear johenora,

For your reply on this thread I was very imperessed and appreciated your knowlege. Your post was (to my understanding) about as acurate and precise as any could have written. My appologise (and please don't go on about spelling) are for not cleaning this up sooner.

Let me explain...

One morning I woke and checked my email, at my suprise someone had posted on various random threads and were still persisting to post.

Upon looking at the posts they were doing, I was angry and upset that someone had basically signed in and joined budoseek! Not to discuss Martial Arts in general, but rather to make sexual, bigoted and generally studip responces to various threads throughout the board.

This is when I acted a bit hastily and replied to each of their posts telling them exactly what I thought. With hindsight this was bad judgement on my behalf.

Anyway, I must have chaced and posted in the region of 15 replys to this fool, which only goes to illustrate what a bad judgement it truely was for twelve hours later (and I presume it was the Administrator) ALL of this fools posts had been removed from the board but leaving, as you can see above, my rather direct reply to them.

On most accounts I them went through the board and 'cleaned up after myself'. To this day this is the second one of my replys that I missed and didn't clean up. The other was on an Aikido thread which was dealt with between myself and the person who was offended in a very amicable and sympathetic way.

This is my formal appology and explaination for your antaganistic behaviour towards me. May I extend my full and most sincere appologise for alll upset cause here, within this thread, as none of it was intended to yourself or your very eliquent post.

Lets say this is a lesson learned. Should I see someone who is posting like that again, I will not tell them on the board what I think and how I feel about their response, but rather simply personal message them and the moderator of the forum. This is what I should have done then, but unfortunatly, I didn't. Emotion got in the way and I simply replied to them not realising that their post would be deleted.

Sorry johenora.

Yours Lawrence Fisher.

Dear Lawrence:
Matte and Ittai--I tap out!for sure.
I did not know you fired a "shot gun "to catch the culprit/s who was/were violating the rules and harrassing you as a poster on the board.
I for one am not sneak attacker. I say it as it is--in that my belief is the truth shall set ye free and I do not live in a glass house to snekily throw stones at others. These freaks are skizophrenics.I had surmized the Board was more secure and dropped my guard.
I did however get suspicious that you and I had been had after your first response to me--which was admirable--in its content and etiquette..
There are several computer hackers and crackers who could have done this.We both got foiled. But as you well know as Nitzsche said supposedly: "That which does not destroy me makes me stronger".
The moderater bluntly put it that things like this could happen and I will be more guarded with Sanshin--"ever remaining mind". It was a naivete on my part thinking the net was more secure.
On balance that was good thinking on your part.
All I can say is "Wow!" the Budo Seek board got compromised. My regret is I did not write to you in time because I was off the boards because of serious computer problems and the compromiser/s may have known this. I am a junior member and neophyte on Budo Seek and do not like other boards. In particular those in which I was attacked thrice by anonymous types using false names who are fearful, hateful, biased freaks that attacked me like you were--- sooo I vented my splean on you in a childish manner to say the least to which I humbly apologize.
I got my dander up too in the Aikido physics unbendable arm problem.
You must know I have done tons of research and visited the Castle in Tokyo to determine its vulnerability as to fire and attack even in possible modern times.I am so glad you liked my input on the Tokyo Castle and I respect your input on the unbendable arm. You sure got everyone's attention as to those threads of yours.Stay in touch please.
Kindest personal regards,
