This is an actually private message from another forum. What I would like to know is if you feel that the guy who wrote this should be considered as a teacher of budo, or if he should be avoided or maybe somewhere in- between.
Why not post who's dojo, school, academy you train at or where you are from so we can all seek you out...are you a (censored)?
Chicken (censored)
who are you my friend?
I can't say how much I love you .. I love you so much...
tell me..
tell me you love me so I can sleep at night.. please..
I took the name off and was not the recipient.
Hi Don,
welcome in.
I think this sounds weird, I'd never answer it.
Ive seen way too many of those posts, thankfully none were addressed to me, but on other forums they get posted and pranced around with full details on who sent it and why... such BS is nothing more than de regeur on those forums and as such, almost needs context. If it was posted on one of the "other" boards, Id expect such behavior (which is why I dont go there). Even "well respected" highly qualified teachers tend to act like jackasses when the group supports the behavior, wether intentionally or not.
Would I go to a person like that for instruction? Probably not... but then again, I dont read their posts either.

Would you train with someone who had bad character but has good martial arts skills???
I did.
One of our top coaches in my original school was a real jerk...arrogant, racist, abusive...
Im went to him for martial arts not personal development.
Jeff
I could not be a student of someone that I did not like.
Jeff Burger

Would that go for any kind of teacher?
btw...I like that quote Jamal...where did you get it?
Jeff
I guess it would not apply to college but I would try to avoid a professor that I knew was a jerk.
I got it from Renzo & Royler Gracie's Jiu Jitsu book.

The jerk teacher wasnt our main teacher...he was our teachers teacher.
I dont know if I could tolerate him all the time but martial arts wise he was one of my best coachs
Other than his MA skills I dont think I could find a kind or respectful word to honestly say about the man.
I wanted something he had, just like a college proffessor and I was willing to tolerate his behaviour to get it.
Its everyone's individual choice and we all have our own lines.
Jeff
I don't understand the posted message. Is the private message from someone looking for instruction or from the person who teaches?

If it's who I think it is, I wouldn't consider him as a teacher. Bully probably... needing therapy more than likely...
No, I wouldn't associate with them (not to say I haven't before - but you gotta learn by your mistakes, hey!). The main reason being 'If you lay down with dogs, you wake up with fleas...'. Guilt by association and all that.
There are some real 'pieces of work' out there lurking in the anonymity or cyberspace - that's why I love it here! :D

It was a private message from a person who teaches martial arts to a person who disagreed with him on some point on another internet forum.
Thanks for clearing that up for me. Now I can truly say that guy is not someone who should be without medication much less teaching martial arts.

Hmm...looks like something a certain ninpo teacher out of Texas would write...
In fact, I would probably bet a beer on it.

Don,
From the writing style...I think I know exactly who it is..
PS -- Dave, no way I'd take that bet.
That's really strange.
I'm with Jeff, though. If I could put up with the teacher, I'd stay. I had one like that for a while and learned a fair amount. Finally, I couldn't stand him and switched schools.
But one ought to learn where s/he can.

David, you talking about a big guy, fat belly, does amateur MMA stuff and posts the pictures on the 'net?
Erik, I love your pic in the avatar!

Erik, I love your pic in the avatar!Glad you do. I'm so non-photogenic that it took me literally 20 or more photos just to get one halfway decent.
I think my eyes and nose make a "T" like a normal person but when there's a photo it looks like Picasso. You should see the out takes!
Besides, I wanted one that was MA-related and emphasized having a lot of fun. I'm a nice, fun, friendly and supportive guy so long as we're not talking about politics, especially Middle Eastern. I wanted that to come across, like the effect that John Bennet has with his avatar.

That would be the fellow Jeff. What Don posted is rather strikingly similar in style to PMs Phil Elmore has received from a certain 'Spirit Mountain'.

This is kind of a lopsided question as we do not know the entire dialog of the conversation, and I know that things taken out of context can REALLY be spun in any direction.

Hmm. Given the alleged identity of the person what posted the private message as sussed by David and Jay and a few others, I can assure you that the rest of the context that lead to the sending of said message is not too dissimilar from the piece that was posted.
Disagreement, one party debates rings around the other, other party falls victim to the Dark Side and sends PM challenging first party to Death Duel(tm).
Umpteenth verse, same as the first.
Nothing new, considering the internet is worse than a horse-sized dose of PCP and a sixer of 'roids when it comes to ruffling the dander of some martial arts practitioners.
Hell, I've had alleged Aikidoka lose their peace-loving Ueshiba-inspired "love-energy" shizzle and scream and rage and froth at me via PM or e-mail like a WWE wrestler cutting a promo for Wrestlemania thanks to the internet. The fact that they tend to recyle lines from R. Lee Ermey's D.I. in "Full Metal Jacket" makes things even funnier.
So far the count is at around 26 for me, 21 of which are alleged Aikido practitioners. Of those 21, about 11 have challenged me to some sort of Death Duel(tm), something I was under the impression most upper-echelon Aikidoka frown upon.
Anyhoo, the point is that folks tend to lose their cool much more quickly and dramatically online than they would in a real-life setting.
In any case, nothing of relevance has been omitted.
Carry on.

I dunno anything about posts like that. But if it was a phone call Id call the police. Being a post, Id probably do anything to avoid that wierdo.
Sad to see but a lot of persons practising martial arts forgot that martial arts are based on discipline and respect...

Sounds like the guy is nothing more than a bully. It's easy to be brave when your out of reach.
I couldn;t train with somebody like that. I have too much respect for myself and my arts. I think an instructor should be able to help build character considering that they are teaching people to be able to hurt others.

I believe the PC term for these is "DNA Delivery Device".

Yeah, he sounds like a nut with a little DNA delivery device :) I would ignore the post. As for getting instruction from *******s, I don't think I could ever workout somewhere where the instructor was a jerk. I want to have respect for my instructors, you can only learn so much from someone you don't respect, luckily I've never faced this problem.
If I'm reading that right, whoever posted that sounds really creepy and emotionally mixed up. I could never attend a MA school/club if there was an instructor like that.
That PM would make a good case for regulation being introduced for mandatory background checks on all MA instructors, especially those coming into contact with kids.
