I have media player and neither will open, they come up as unavailable/page moved.
Jamal, generally good stuff. You have a good grasp of the fundamentals of different fighting ranges. Your footwork is pretty good; I like your use of low kicks to set up other techniques, and you have good transitions to ground work.
Too bad your partner wasn't very challenging for you so you could really show some stuff. He needs a LOT of work! I hope your are helping him.
Some advice: Keep your hands quiet when you kick. I notice you have a tendency to telegraph with your hands, and you drop your hands or move them from a covering position when you kick. Keep your hands quiet.
Keep your elbows a little more to your centerline to help block strikes and shoot attempts.
Throw more knees from the clinch. You are a striker - strike more from the clinch! You've got good striking skills - use them more on the inside.
Your positioning on the ground is good. Get a little more practice on finishing holds. I see many missed opportunities for submissions. I get the strong feeling that the only reason why your partner tapped on the botched triangle is because he was petered-out - hard to tell from the quality of the film (please correct me if I am wrong). You did reverse him very nicely on that move, by the way!
Overall, pretty good work!
Thanks for the advice Jeff!! I definately need to keep my hands up!! I got whacked quite a few times in my last kickboxing match for that very reason. Luckily I was not downed. I am working hard on my hands.
I've been doing some boxing and I'm working on keeping my elbows in and bringing my hands back to my chin and also better footwork for my punches and kicks.
Im also training alot of jiu-jitsu without the gi. My jiu-jitsu coach and I are trying to get me ready for what I hope to be my MMA debut soon. Im not trying to make a career, I just want to fight while I am still able to compete.
My sparring partner had no prior grappling only Wing Chun but is supposed to begin training at my camp soon. He has about 60lbs. on me. I normally use the knee alot from the clinch but I was playing nice.
I did not finsh him with the triangle at the end. I was going to hold him there and go for the armlock but our round ended.
Jamal, you have a good head for this game; you will do very well. Let me know when your MMA match will be; if it is in Florida, I might be able to come watch it.
If you are ever down in SW Florida and want to beat up some of my guys for practice, let me know!
Hopefully It will be in Jacksonville. I will keep you posted.
I was hoping to get alot more feedback on the video :(
Sorry, Jamal. I can't see it either.
Good nice take downs and kicks. You might want to use some combinations. Also nice shin blocking.
I think I posted a reply to this on a different thread. Mainly, I was curious about some of the stand ups. There are times when it looks like you guys just restart on your feet. Did the guy just give up? Did you submit him and I just couldn't see it? Or do you have really aggressive rules about keeping active on the ground?
In the first one at 1:10 nobody tapped. I had my arm in there and he wasn’t getting pressure so he let go. We were doing 2min. rounds so we stopped as the rounds ended.
For those who cant see the clips use the link from post #6!!!!
You might want to use some combinations.
Thanks! I definately need to work on combos.
Good stuff. For a wing chun student your buddy isnt as aggressive as he should be. Seems to be attacking areas that are already being blocked sometimes. Leaves himself open a bunch. Your friend that is. If you werent sparring nice, how quickly do you think you could end it?
