I'm due to grade form my brown/black belt in 2 weeks and have just badley sprained by left ankle!!
This is the worst injury I've had yet.
Not grading's frustrating enough but not being able to train for a minimum of 6 weeks is going to drive me up the wall.
The icing on the cake is that I've booked next week as annual leave!!
Ah, well, at least I didn't break it.................

sods law strikes again!
hope it gets better soon...
M
Twenty minutes before my brown belt grading I was warming up by spinning my bo. My family was there and some friends so (maybe) I was showing off a little but I spun one end of the bo into the front of my right shin at full speed. Then I had to get to the washroom without limping. I barely got the bleeding to stop before we were called to the floor and the cramping only went away about halfway thru the basics drills.
Two days before my brown belt test I was down in my basement moving some stuff aroun and somehow hit my head on our cement ledge, knocked myself down and almost out, and ended up with a pretty serious concussion. Poop happens.... Sorry to hear about the ankle though...

Six weeks recovery doesnt have toi mean no training so cheer up! You may not be able to particpate in class but go along anyway. Your teacher will probably be able to give you things you can work on while injured but stay off that foot. I had badly sprained my ankle about seven years ago.(It took six weeks to be able to move it an inch!) Your teacher might get you to sitdown while someone goes through some hand drills with you or go over the theory you will need to know for that grading next time. Anyway good luck with your recovery and dont lose heart. Next time you are able to grade you will have a better understanding of everything you have leant in the mean time.

Well, it's been 3 weeks now and most of the swelling has gone. I'm walking, but with a limp and I'm off the crutches!!
I haven't trained for 3 weeks now and I'm missing it like hell.......
I can't wait until i get back - I want to return NOW but have to convince myself to wait until the injury is fully healed.
I have to say, I'm pretty anxious to ensure that I don't have a repeat occurance of this injury. I bought an ankle support and have been reading everything I can about prevention........
What art do you do again? do you do any upper body techniques from the ground that you can be working on without putting any stress on the ankle?

Ju Jitsu.
upper body techniques from the ground
The only thing I can think of is escapes from strangles.
I could also practise various escapes from strangle, collar grabs and wrist grabs.
My partner suggested weapons revision, so I'll do some more work on them.

Well, I haven't trained for 5 weeks' now and I'm really missing it! I've decided to start back next Thursday and try and get some of my fitness back. I won't be doing any throws for a while and will be just concentrating on stick defences, wrist locks, pressure points, kicks from the ground and kata of hold-downs.
I feel quite anxious about returning. I just hope that I don't damage my ankle again!

Haven't heard of that, but it also sounds like Murphy's Law.
#3 Anything that can go wrong will go wrong.
#4 If there is a possibility of several things going wrong, the one that will cause the most damage will be the one to go wrong. Corollary: If there is a worse time for something to go wrong, it will happen then.
