Whats your position on ankle weights for practicing kicking? how effective are they?

I think the Ankle weights are a bad idea. You have to slow your leg down earlier to avoid the weight slamming forward and then reverse back. I think in the end you start slowing down earlier and earlier and screw your kick up.

What I would use instead is a Lateral Resister. It is made of bungee cord or surgical tubing with ankle cuffs. You could use them and kick hard the tube would give you resistance but the momentum of extra DAMAGING weight would not be there. You can also use it for footwork or running resistance also.
