If you have taken Karate any type you know that each teacher has his or her own little test dummy. I was my sensi's test dummy. Now i felt special  when everytime he asked me to go up and demonstrate moves. I knew all the counters cause i dont know it maybe happened to me 5 times a day, but know i could use the counters because he would counter my counter, so you kind of picked up on this. Every day I prayed!! that another student would come in jump 7 belts in 2 hours and be come the next dummy so i could get a brake ;) . Anyone have any dummy stories or share the triumph of being a test dummy ?
I know of whence ye speak!
I'm not the senior student, so I don't get most of the abuse. However, when Sensei says,"Now this is how you do it against a big guy", I just sigh and go take my punishment. Oh, well, at least I'm helping people learn.
I just realized something. I'm helping them learn how to beat me up!
Sensei and I need to talk..... :(
If you see from my sig. that I am the true crash test dummy! :D
No seriously, I am one of the senior students at my aikido dojo and a while back there were two others including myself who would take ukemi for sensei.
One person would be picked on for painful hold-downs and pins, another would take some form of trashing whilst I would take hits and "colurful" throws.
However, since both of the mentioned contempories have taken a leave of absence, I get all of their beatings! Hurrah!
I was also privilaged to be a test dummy for a 6thdan Japanese master when he came to teach a summer course last year. This was for a 10 day intensive course and I was uke almost 90% of the time. That was really good in terms of feeling the technques, but my arms were left bruised and all other seniors at the course wanted to practice with me since they could see I knew how to take the proper ukemi for the techniques.
I had to take a day off work afterwards to recover...

Been there done that.
when I was an early teenager my (adult) Second cousin would stop by and trade techniques with my father. They would disscuss how best to perform the technique and demostrate it. Guess who got the be the test dummy. I learned how to fall properly and tap out early.
It is a wonder that I ever got into the martial arts.
Mabe thats what took me so long? HA! HA!

A few weeks ago I was usually the only senior student coming in to class. The rest were new guys and I was the test dummy. After class most of the new students would ask if I did something bad because my coach was so rough with me :D ..now thankfully more of the senior students are coming to class, now they get pick on too :D
I am registered in the "frequent fliers" program in our Dojang, anytime my Teacher gets the urge to throw somebody really hard and really far, yours truly gets the call, and it's never something simple to take ukemi/nauk bup for, it's a "twist the wrist this way, lockout the shoulder this way, and in the meantime, throw in a good foot sweep just for flavor" kind of deal. I guess I just have that type of face that says "Throw me,please!" written all over it!
I am also the chief of staff and cane techniques, I involuntarily wince when I hear somebody say, "Oh..I heard there were cane techniques in Hapkido..."
Another thing I get is the "Flying for Newbies" program, which entails that everytime a new/prospective student is checking out the class,I get to get thrown around the Dojang to the collective "Ooohs and Aahhs" of the people present, and regardless of how much I am sucking wind, that's when they say,"what do you use that for?(pointing at the cane)......

This avatar is from the eastern front from world war 1. :D
and no Andrew I'm not feeling left out...I'm fitting in perfectly getting beat up with the others...it would be even more perfect if you didn't beat me up at all.

I'll have none of this self-sacrificing attitude Don. You are perfectly free to tell me you wnat beat up more. No need to be shy about it. Maybe you can be the dummy all next week. ESPECIALLY if sticks get involved, cause I know how much you like getting hit with a stick :D

Then can I? Can I? Can I? Can I? Huh?.. Huh? PLease, Please, PLEASE! :D
*Lisa runs to get her stick ready for Mondays class... :p  :D
... and on the dojo test dummy note, Andrew tends to only really use you a lot if you've been missing classes for a while ;)
