I don't think there is just one right now. There are a handful that are super though. My favorites:
PRIDE:
Wanderlei Silva
Mirko Filipovic
Fedor Emelianenko
Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira
UFC:
Randy Couture
BJ Penn

thanks for the response.
Randy Couture is a good fighter. I know he is a world class wrestler.
i wonder what other kind training he has taken on since entering the mmas.
I t weould be interesting to find out how much work he has done in these other styles.

In my opinion, Wanderlei Silva is the best MMA fighter in the world, right now. His record is probably the most impressive around (25-3-1) and he hasn't had a loss in over four years. He really seems to be unbeatable at the moment; but we all know how quickly that can change. Cro Cop was high on everybody's list for a long while, but look what happened...
As for Randy Couture, obviously, he is a phenomenal wrestler, and ground and pound has been one of his primary weapons. However, I've heard that he's been doing some really serious boxing training for awhile, now. In fact, if you look at his major fights last year, he really beat both Chuck and Tito standing up. Truly an inspirational fighter. Randy is the man. Can't wait for a rematch with Belfort.

the problem with Silva is he tends to fight tommato cans although he is my favorite fighter. The other problem is the set of rules differ between organizations. But I would have to agree with Cliffs list with the addition of Matt Hughs.

I'd go with Fedor, he seems the toughest to beat right now.

If I had to choose one fighter I would go with Fedor as well. I cant get over the slam he took from Randleman OMG!

Randy is my favorite. Anyone who can do all that in his 40s impresses the heck out of me.
