Dear Calgarians,

I was wondering if you could help me find a traditional ma school that focuses on self defense. I'm interested in Japanese Jujitsu, Daito-Ryu Aikijujitsu, and Hapkido, but open to suggestions of other arts. I'm looking for is an art that has primarily standing techinques (trapping with the hands, kicking, joint locks), but some ground just in case.

Any feedback is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Here are some sites I've found:

http://www.ju-jitsu.ca
http://flyingeaglehapkido.com/index2.html (they have a Calgary Headquarters)

Good luck with your search!

Thank you for your replies.

I've heard about Calgary Jujitsu (http://www.ju-jitsu.ca) before. Their techniques are great, but the instructors are all 1st degrees. Not that their system is not good, but I want to be in an art where I can advance.

As for the Flying Eagle Hapkido (http://flyingeaglehapkido.com/index2.html), what is their training emphasis? Punching, kicking, locking, weapons, or ground?

Not sure if you've found a place to train at yet. If you haven't, I train at the Southland Leisure Centre (www.gojiujitsu.com)

PM me if you'd like more info

I train with Grand Master Park in Hapkido, he is amazing and I encourage you to visit his school.

His schools are in the south and near downtown.

If you are in the NE then I suggest either Grand Master B.O. Yoon's school or Flying Eagle Hapkido

If you are way in the NW then you could also check out the Tao of Peace

There is lots of great Hapkido in Calgary, you have come to the right city for it. (the Korean Masters seem to like living near the Rockies and Banff)
