I have damaged a meniscus and it looks like I'm going to need surgery. My question is; Has anybody had this surgery done and made a successful return to competative full contact fighting?

Thanks

Mark,

Meniscal tears are common injuries and are usually treated with a high degree of success. They are treated arthroscopically ( using small instruments through 2 small holes on either side of your knee cap). The recovery is usually about 6 weeks. This procedure is not in my field ( Im a foot and ankle Dr.) but Ive participated in hundreds and had on done myself. The problem lies in what else is going on in your knee. If it's only meniscus and you just injured it, you should be good after surgery. If youve worn out cartilage in your knee or damaged your anterior cruciate ligament, you may be recovering for a while. You will most likely get an MRI prior to Surgery and this will clear up your situation better.
Just my opinion
