What's the verdict?
I've been avoiding installing SP2... is it worth the hassle for better security? is it still buggy? any big issues to look out for?
Thanks in advance!

I use it at home. I haven't noticed any real issues with it. It's cleaned up some of the media issues I was having (player incompatabilities, etc...).
Security wise, I'm sitting behind a router with a firewall, so I feel pretty good about it.
At work I'm still on a 2k box so I can't comment there, but I know the deployment dept here put the nix on people upgrading tp XP SP2 because of some of the tools & utilities that are used for automated systems mgmt across the network.
Yea, I keep putting that off too. I keep hearing about software incompatability with it. We were even advised to not install it at my work because the accounting software we use is said to have conflicts with it...
I have installed it on some machines that I put together for some other people, and it seems like it jams security down your throat. Haven't played around on it much though.

I haven't had any problems so far with it. You can turn off those security things. I did because I use my own firewall and virus utility.

I've also been waiting on it until it's been around for awhile and they've figured out all the things it'll mess up and patch it. However, I'm feeling a little under the heat because I heard that there's a major security flaw in SP1 that allows viruses to enter your system through JPGs; good luck avoiding JPGs on the internet.

Well, I took the plunge, and it seems to be okay. (obviously)
I got a scare on that first re-boot, as it hung until I powered down and restarted, then it's been fine since then. phew!
I'll let you know if any issues pop up.

I had problems. It caused a software conflict which made my screensavers to not work. It disallowed my wife's computer (which is networked through mine) a connection to the internet.
These problems were solved easily enough though, and SP2 is generally worth it for the pop-up blocker alone.

I have seen no glitches on my work computers. One program I have had to upgrade was Nero Burning Rom. Their are quite a few enhancements with SP2 that make the upgrade worth while. Good Luck!
Anywhere to d/l it other then the windows update site?
