What are Iaito blades?

Most on-line shopping sites distinguish clearly between iaito blades and other swords.

So when is a blade a Iaito blade?

Iaito blades are used for the practice of iaido.

These blades are of an alloy construction, hold no edge and are lighter than real blades.

Sure no problem.

I will amend my signature right now.

Just wondering though do you think Stan Lee is really Stan Lee? He has a Wolverine avatar and his name is Stan Lee. (Creator of the X-men and Wolverine)

How real is that?

My name Slim Shady. Now how real do you think that name is?
So it is all very open for discussion.

P.S. If you really are Stan Lee than my most humble apologies.

Slim Shady

Actually it isn't open for discussion.

His name really is Stan Lee, though he isn't that Stan Lee. Now for your real name Mr. Shady?

Actually Slim, David is right. That really is Stan Lee, although he is not the comic book artist. I've known at least one other person named Stan Lee in my time. It's not that uncommon a name. What's more David has every right to ban you as you agreed to sign your real name, and you have been warned to do so and still you insist on not using your name.

If you are too afraid to use your real name and you want to go somewhere and hide behind an alias, then go to http://www.fightingarts.com
or http://www.kendoworld.com Neither site requires real names.

Thank you David and Charles. :)

I really am not that Stan Lee the artist.

In fact his real name is Stanley Lieber.

However, I do enjoy the wolverine comics.

Thread drift over.

Anything else you want to know about iaito blades??

You have captured the attention of two guys who are quite knowledgeable in the field of JSA and you are asking about the authenticity of my name. :)

The name is Lin Meiring.

Please to make your acquaintance.

You do have the fullest right to ban me. The thing is that I am a programmer and I do know that Identity Theft is a very real possibility. I don't like throwing my name all over the internet. Can you guys guarantee my privacy in this forum. Very unlikely. It is not like I have said anything I have been ashamed off or anything.

Security Reasons only.

Please forgive this reply since I have not yet updated my signature but that would be my next stop.

Hello Lin. Good to see a fellow South African on here. I am a bit confused how signing your name to your posts makes identity theft any more possible than the prospective thief looking your name up in a telephone book, reading it on your office door, getting it off of a business card, or spying it on a piece of paper somewhere.

Note that your location, age, e-mail address, IM handle, martial art, hobbies, etc. are all optional pieces of information here, and not required. Bit difficult to assume anyone's identity with only a name.

Yep, born in Jo'burg. Haven't been back there since '79 though. My Afrikaans has atrophied to near non-existence...

Hahahahaha

Soulend, Sorry not laughing at you. Laughing at myself. I though you were an American. Made a joke about you referring to the Oxford English Dictionary.

At least you not be offended.

Sorry, stupid question.

Southern Cape.

Nope, South Carolina. USA. I used the O.E.D. because it is the global standard for the English language. However, if Webster is less amusing:

tough:

1. Able to withstand great strain without tearing or breaking; strong and resilient: a tough all-weather fabric.
2. Hard to cut or chew: tough meat.
3. Physically hardy; rugged: tough mountaineers; a tough cop.
Severe; harsh: a tough winter.
4. Aggressive; pugnacious.
5. Inclined to violent or disruptive behavior; rowdy or rough: a tough street group.
6. Demanding or troubling; difficult: skipping the toughest questions.
7. Strong-minded; resolute: a tough negotiator.
8. Slang - Unfortunate; too bad: a tough break.
9. Slang - Fine; great

You may now laugh at yourself again. Just kidding! :D

I dunno, do I? Who the heck is Tony Greg, and why does he insist on having two first names?

Simply answered thread has wandered off topic enough. An iaito is an alloy or aluminum-bladed sword used for iai practice, used instead of a shinken (sharp sword) for safety's sake. Also answered in the JSA FAQ: http://pub38.bravenet.com/faq/show.php?usernum=3254125796&keywords=iaito#q1

Feel free to answer my PM's about who this "Tony Greg" is though.
