Hello,

Over on Aikido Journal I noticed a post by Don Angier announcing his choice of a successor for Yanagi ryu. Does anyone here know anything about his chosen successor Jeremy Breazeale. For instance, how long he's trained in Yanagi ryu and where he lives?

I believe Sensei Threadgill of the Shindo Yoshin ryu trained in Yanagi ryu in the past as well as several other members here. Soke Angiers announcement was very direct and clear, a refreshing change from many of the controversial succession delimmas I've read about. I assume it is good news that a successor has been chosen.

Hello (again) Mr Beall,

I'm afraid I cannot be of much help here. Although I was technically an official member of the Yanagi ryu dojo in Long Beach, I was never living in California during this period so I only ocassionally had the opportunity to train there. ( In reality I was more like an ocassional visitor.) My main interest was focused on Shindo Yoshin ryu and my responsibilities to Takamura Sensei. With my appointment as administrative head of the Shindo Yoshin Kai / USA I was compelled to discontinue active training in Yanagi ryu.

Given this fact I can provide little info about Don Angiers choice of Jeremy Breazeale as his successor. I believe he has trained with Don for about 4 years and is under 30 years old.

Beyond that I have no comment.

Hmm..if it's "about a block off", perhaps it shouldn't have been posted here, as it has a grand total of 0% to do with the subject and thus is a violation of rules 4 and 9.
