I invite all the instructors and viewers that come across this posting to write comments and/or encouragements on very serious matter. There’s an instructor (let’s call that person J) that was a chief instructor for two schools in NYC. “J” was misled by the head instructor; he didn’t have master rank amount other things. Also, “J” was taken advantage of financially, emotionally and personally.

“J” gave years of support and instruction to the schools students with little reward from the head instructor. In fact, most will consider the amount of work she done for the two schools as slave labor. Furthermore, all the things the head instructor told “J” turn out to be a big fat sugar coated lie.

“J” now feel that Taekwondo, Martial Arts and the people who run schools to be nothing more than lying lowlifes, “J” loss the faith.

The reason I write this on Budoseek is to show “J” that there’re good martial artist out there that care and are sincere about their art. Also, I turn J on to Budoseek and know that J will read this. I also hope it can restore J's faith in Taekwondo, people and Martial Arts in general.

“J” is at a cross roads on whether to continual or quit Taekwondo. I hope “J” decides to continual and take up my offer to join my school and allow me to help. As for tuition price NO CHARGE, you have paid your debt in full.

I think you may be on the wrong group, I personally would give up taekwondo and switch to the fine tradition of hapkido. :) Seriously, I know several members who post here frequently who have been through this before, yours truly included.

Back then; we called it the Korean shuffle. It happened to me in the late 80’s. Fortunately, he was not my first teacher, so I knew it was an isolated incident. In fact, just about anyone from the ‘old days’ has gone through this; more went through it last year in the hapkido community. It took me 9 years to realign myself with some real folks. I was very gun shy that whole time and maintained an independent status as an instructor. I finally found a home with the USKMAF (www.hapkido.com).

But then again, I was not even looking; I had just given up on the whole hapkido community. At the time of the ‘great fallout’ in Houston, I had given up, not on my art, but on my seniors. I even turned my back on the whole hapkido community for a while and the first thing I did after leaving, was set up a new dojang as a Texas 501C, non-for-profit dojang and had the students run it. All I wanted to do was teach. I did not plan for it, but many of the students followed me out the door.

Eventually, I met the 200-400 folks who travel every September and March to Jackson and found all sorts of experienced folks there, and a family. I have met and played on the mats with Masters Timmerman, Whalen, Cushing, Duque, and Maureen, Michael, Jack, Bruce and many others at this event. Since then I have met just about anyone who is anyone these days in hapkido as they all make it to Jackson eventually. I don’t know if taekwondo has such events, but I would look for ones without hidden agendas, just folks wanting to learn something new and have a good time with lots of senior organizational representatives to talk with. Don’t worry it will happen. They happen all the time in hapkido, and I can only assume that they happen in your art.

Best of luck.
Been there, done that, got the t-shirt, use it to clean my Harley.:)
