If you've not heard of it, this incident has been all over the local news here since Thursday.

Basically, a guy was mad about a child custody dispute. He showed up at the courthouse in downtown Tyler Thursday and started shooting people with an AK type rifle.

He injured his son David Hernandez Arroyo Jr., 23, sheriff's Deputy Sherman Dollison, 28; sheriff's Lt. Marlin Suell, 38; and police Officer Clay Perrett, 54.

He killed his wife Maribel Estrada, 41, and a civilian concealed carry permit holder who intervened Mark Allen Wilson, 52.

CCW holder Mark Wilson shot the attacker several times, but the attacker was wearing body armor. That was cool because Wilson's bravery probably saved many lives.

Next the gunman got in his truck and left the courthouse square. The cool part is when the cops caught up with him out on the road.

One cop pulls up to him shooting out the driver's window of his cruiser. He dropped the gunman. Imagine that; shooting left handed, from a moving vehicle, and making a head shot. Impressive!

Mr. Wilson is dead. The assailant put him down, walked over and executed him before getting in a car to drive off.

The dash-cam video from the recent Tyler shooting was interesting...

I got this email from a cop friend in Tyler...

"The bad guy, using an AK (7.62x39), had shot his wife and son and was standing pointing it at his son, intending to kill him, when Wilson [this is the citizen hero who intervened -jb] who fired 4 rounds from a 45.

The rounds hit the suspect in the back (in a good group), this diverted his attention away from his son [saving the kid's life -jb]. The suspect turned to see who had shot him and observed Wilson. He then shot Wilson and then stood over him, shooting him some more.

The suspect had severe bruising where the 45's had hit. He also had two places on his chest where it appeared as if he was hit, possibly with a .357 [a different citizen did this, but left the scene and police never got to talk to him -jb].

His vest prevented any penetration. The only gunshot wounds he suffered prior to being terminated was a nasty one in the back of his leg and one in his shoulder. These occurred before he left the courthouse.

When he exited his vehicle he was hit in the upper left side of his head with the bullet exiting behind his right ear. This was from a 223 round."

In the video at 1:44 you can see the cop run up with the M4.

Headshot from 30 yards with an M4. That's good shooting!
