I was there and witnessed the event in person. Royce walked up to Cliff and the other guy he gave a stripe to and said, "Put on stripe." Very eloquent. :D

Gee, thanks guys, I guess......

it's just a piece of tape. To me it means that Royce looked at me, said "It's been a year since I seen this guy and he STILL isn't ready for a purple belt, so I better give him a piece of tape so he doesn't feel like a total loser."

When I finally do get a purple I will post it here in big bold letters :)

In all seriousness, I watched the intermediate and advanced seminars. They were doing things that was blowing my mind. Cliff held his own just fine. He was on the mat for two hours straight and didn't quit. He deserved the stripe in my book.

Grats Cliff. Maybe we can do some ground stuff at the Budoseek event. Been awhile since I was tapped by a BJJ player... course I've not seen one lately either. lol.

Cliff, that tape can come in handy. You can pull it off of your belt during a rolling break to tape up a popped toe or finger! ;)

You must be thinking of another art. BJJers aren't forced to dance a jig when they're promoted to the next belt rank; they're forced to run a gauntlet.
