If you have a couple of stripes on your belt and then switch schools under a new instucter do you wear a new belt and start over?
I'm just thinking if it would be disrespectful somehow wearing something that wasnt earned under your new instructer? this is of course under the same BJJ system.

Like any martial art, it depends on the instructor. Some let you wear whatever you earned and some prefer to evaluate you and have you wear what they think you should wear. Plus not all BJJ schools use stripes. I haven't personally seen any problem with someone wearing rank from one school in another school, as long as it was a considered a "legit" BJJ school.

Take me for instance, no matter where I go in the BJJ world, I am a no stripe white belt. It makes for an easy transition. :D

I have been on both sides. I was in a school where I had two stripes on my Blue before I left. When I hooked up with another instructor that didn't use them, I took them off. It had zero effect on my performance, obviously.

During that time I attended a Royce seminar where at the end, after rolling, he pulled me aside and said "you need to put some stripes on your belt". I told him that I appreciated that but my instructor didn't use them. He nodded and said "ok".

My top student was awarded his second stripe on his Blue from Rob Kahn and I know that SBGi uses a stripe system as well now, so who knows?
