No, not what time of day, or even how long you train! I am talking about percentages. What (generally speaking!) average percentage of your dojo time is divided into solo kata, kumitachi/two man kata, and tameshigiri (if your school does this).
In Sekiguchi ryu (up to sandan level only, I haven't even gotten to Chuden yet so it may change!) the percentage is probably 95% solo and 5% kumitachi. In Kobu Shin ryu, it is more along the lines of 50% solo, 45% kumitachi/two person kata, and 5% tameshigiri.
Now, I am making no claims about one method being any better than any other. In the (in?)famous words of Dan Harden, it's all good! I was just thinking about this the other day and was curious.
So, how does your school's practice break down?
