View Full Version : new forms.
form is a manifestation of mind, mind is manisfestation of spirit... spirit is the energy of creation. one way to create a form is to write a visual theme. such as:
dragon catches two comets
falling stars pierce the sky
imitation of theme thru body movement is manisfestation of creative energy... form.
another way is to assume form. such as rain, snow, wind, mercury, iron, animal, etc... you can also create multi-form, such as mercury tiger or rain dragon. form can be as spontaneous as the wind gusts; as subtle as an ant trail. how about galactic form? black hole sucking planets, meteor storm, dragon throwing the spiral galaxy... imagination has no impossibilities.

freeform boxing is mindless boxing. form is spontaneous. no opponent, no confrontation, just body shape, energy movement... thought this was a martial arts forum??

Mindless boxing? I never heard of it, sorry. This is a martial arts board, I don't consider "mindless boxing" a martial art.

Polemic, too, is just "another way is to assume form".
It is thus, Grasshopper, go, go, go beyond, go totally beyond...form is emptiness and emptiness is form; form is not other than emptiness and emptiness is not other than form.

but you guy's seem like a bunch of arrogant numbnuts?? i never encountered a more high schoolish-my martial arts is better than yours attitude before! i was under the impression that this was a martial arts community, you know like where martial artist can meet, communicate, and trade off ideas, philosophies, technique? what makes your arts any better than my arts? because i have use funny little names to remember my technigues and forms? wait is it because i like to create new ideas with my arts? is it because my martial arts are constantly evolving like the water of a mountain spring? art is expression, martial art is an expression of ones self. and by the way it's not an ancient ability to take off ones shirt in the sub-zeros and train. it's called, just take your shirt off and do it.

Well first off, you haven't made the first post even remotely related to martial arts. You have just posted some psudeo-Asian metaphoric jibberish. If you find us too high-schoolish for you, then please feel free to explore other message boards that may be more adept to decipher your communications.

Ditto Cliff...
Besides that, just for a quick lesson as to why some MA techniques (especially Chinese) have unique names or however you choose to view them is a two fold answer.
One is the majority of Chinese were functionally illiterate. So if you can't write, you can make up poems (kuen kuit) to keep track of techniques.
Two is the Chinese who weren't illiterate wrote things down to help the remember them. So if you write down a secrect technique in your book of techniques (kuen po), maybe you code them so you know what it is & your neighbor doesn't.
The techniques may or may not resemble the motions. They may or may not carry the spirit or idea of the technique. There are a blue billion techniques to prove/disprove this, but suffice it to say IMHO with your "outer worldly" notions & your
imitation of theme thru body movement is manisfestation of creative energy... form. ideas of techniques, you're more interested in sounding proficient than being proficient.
And for the record, my nuts are not numb ...

how can you not see the martial art in all of that? first dragon refers to a pattern of stepping(dragon style) you know that crouching lotus-looking stance where you look like your sitting on your heel, catching the two comets indicates that the two hands are blocking and grasping two incoming strikes, such as a kick-punch block. falling stars are obviously strikes, the fact that they are falling indicates the nature of the strike, which is descending, now think of the power or force of such an event as stars falling, this enforces the notion that the strikes are of the powerful confrontation-ending ones(hammerfists, downwards fists, descending palms, elbows). pierce the sky; knifehand thrusts, up and out(towards the sky). snow, rain, and other natural forms indicates how ones form should feel and look. soft and fluffy like snow, gusting around in blizzards, or rain forms, where the focus is on descending forms and techniques. mercury? well it is like water yet it is a metal. it takes on the properties of both metal and water; mercury tiger would be form that imitates the tiger techniques, yet movement is fluid and assuming like water, body is of metal. a blackhole sucking planets? imagine the energy need to reel in a planet, grasping and controlling techniques should demonstrate and reflect the energy of a blackhole, not even light can escape. a meteor storm indicates and pounding barrage of strikes... as form dragon throwing the spiral galaxy... well, use your imagination. looking at martial arts in this manner gives visuality to form and technique. it's a good approach to teaching children; which would be more fun to practice, squating down into the dragon stance, standing up into rooster, execute a heelkick at head height, drop foot, pivot, squat down into dragon, repeat. or you could simply say, "dragon kicks off the mountain peak". it is kinda like sign language. peace.

No more bong hits unless you are willing to share or at least give me time to find a mind altering substance to re-read your posts. Please post more...could you include stuff like unicorns? Unicorns are great.
there actually is a unicorn form.
charging unicorn; could be used to reflect the image of a unicorn thrusting with its horn. form practice could include stepping into a leaning head thrust.
create a theme, then create the forms. ask yourself what a unicorn is, and then practice it in form and application.

Uki is just having a good time. He's best ignored...funny, but best ignored :D
the reason i need to be ignored is because if everyone realized that martial art is like a wellspring from within, no one would be making money or wallowing in their illusion of power, everyone would have their own martial art. none wrong, none right, just martial art.

No, that's a poor branch of pseudo-philosophy generally practiced by self-taught starving losers. Martial art - having to do with the art of warfare - is a practical system of physics and body mechanics designed to overcome your opponent in combat. Some folks have ADDED the philosophic/artistic components to impractical or outdated techniques as a way of preserving an often idealized and romantically unrealistic past. This forum is largely populated by folks who practice and use their martial arts for their intended purpose. Growth in confidence, discipline, courtesy and truthfulness arise from those practices. Pseudo-intellectual raving and fortune cookie philosophy such as you're spouting are not welcome.

self-taught losers; no, more like understanding individuals. i understand how my body adapts in situations, i understand my beliefs in my martial art, i understand how i can overcome in combat, i understand my applications and technique by watching, understanding, and learning. what is practical? what is impractical?

You either DON'T understand or you're being deliberately trollish. Either way, you're on thin ice here. Belief is for religion, not martial arts. Either can the fortune cookie prattle or be gone.

That reminds me of a story told by George Will in his book,"Men at Work: The Craft of Baseball." He was discussing managers and explaining that they are much smarter than they sometimes act. Sparky Anderson was once ejected from a game during the exchange of line-up cards :D

I may have to grab that book in the near future. I like George Will (being a conservative AND a baseball fan is good credentials) and love to read stuff he has written. Ol Sparky is one of my favorite's from the good old days of the mighty Cincinnati Reds! You needed a strong headed guy like him to keep folks like Pete Rose, Johnny Bench, Jose Conception, Joe Morgan and a host of other greats in line.

First of all you come in with a topic like NEW FORMS and then you start with the philosophical concepts without giving any notion of what you're talking about. The only thing I understood was the constant use of the word form. You are just opening your self up to attack. No offense I used to watch anime.
It also seems like you took some quotes from Bruce Lee's Tao of Jeet Kune Do . I could be wrong.
