View Full Version : This Weekend: Chuck or Randy?
Well, what do y'all think?
I've spoken with Chuck's guys and he's reported to be in great shape physically and psychologically ("No girl trouble!"), ready to go!
As we all know, Chuck's a wonderful striker and has a Div. I wrestling background, but Randy managed to out strike Belfort and to take Chuck down again and again last time. I guess the Olympics were a useful experience for him.
I wonder how it will go.
There are times I wish these two guys were in different weight classes as they are my two favorite fighters.

I have to go with Randy, again. Maybe it is because of my respect for him asa fighter. Chuck is great and both have admirable qualities as champions. Either way a true champion will win.
It's kind of hard to watch them pound each other, isn't it?
For that reason, specifically.

I agree with you Erik. I've come to respect and admire both as fighters and trainers, especially since the show.
It will be one hell of a fight though.
I watched a few of their other fights recently and it just seemed like Randy was a little more technically polished and complete where as Liddell was a little more swinging for the fences. Of course, his "go for it" attitude could be hiding some of what I am sure must be his abundant technique.
I guess at that level I would like to think that technique would win out most of the time and for that reason I'm giving Randy the edge but barely. Should be epic though...
They will probably be anxious to have a great fight after the standard that was set by Griffon and company. I wouldnt be suprised if the pay per view orders have gone through the roof following the Spike TV special. It could be a pivotal moment for the entire UFC. If this fight lives up to the hype, they should see a big rise in fan interest. If it is over in 1 minute people will probably lose interest quick. I think this is their shot. Pretty good marketing idea really to have the PPV on 1 week after the cable special when it is still fresh in everyones mind. It will be interesting to see what happens and whether the UFC takes off a bit from here or is relegated to a lower tier sport for years to come.
Personally, I'm betting that they all know what is at stake this weekend and from the undercards to the main event, they will be putting it all on the line.
I'm psyched!

As a fan, I think Chuck is the more exciting fighter to watch, but I'm going to have to go with Randy again. He's one of the smartest fighters out there, with his ability to study his opponent's game and figure out how to shut it down. He doesn't have the hand speed or power of a Chuck or a Vitor, but he controls the timing and distancing so well that it doesn't matter. I also think he has one of the best attitudes of any top level fighter. I think he's managed to turn his age and maturity into a strength rather than a weakness.
Either way, it should be a great fight.

This will be the first UFC that I have ever order from PPV. My wife never wanted me to order it because she thought that it was stupid. That was before she watched the saw and watched the fight between forrestt and stephan. Back to the subject though. I think Randy will take it, but you have to think that Chuck definatly has a good chance of winning. I definatly think it will be a good fight, and cannot wait to see it.

I go with Randy. I just think he's the obvious choice, he controlled Liddell in every way last time, even outboxing him and I haven't seen anything from either fighter to lead me to believe that it will turn out any differently.
By the way, there is an article on Sherdog about the TUF LHW final possibly being the most influential MMA fight of our time, for precisely the reasons just described. Could really bring things into the maintsream. Props to Dana. I've criticized him heavily in the past, but he put it out of the park on this one.

I'd say Randy will be the favorite in just about everyone's mind, He's dominated everyone he's fought at LHW, and just about everyone at HW.
That said, if it is time for the LHW belt to get a new owner Chuck is the guy I'd want to see claim it.

I like Chuck and would love to see him win but I don't see it happening.

If I was a betting man, I would have lost all my lunch money on that UFC. Chuck beating Randy and Lindland tapping out Travis Lutter with a choke!

KO in the first round for those that missed it. Randy showed excellent sportsmanship after he woke up saying that Couture had deserved the belt for a long time since Tito wouldn't fight him.
Oh, and now he wants the Pride belt :D

I have to tip my hat to Chuck. I really thought Randy was going to take it again. He will make a good champion, again.

I hate to see these old guys loose.
Does that mean they need to be locked up to keep them safe?
:D
Well, as someone who is soon to be reaching "old pharte" status, I'm going to continue trying to push the envelope.
Why do y'all think it turned out the way it did?
My hunch is that they were both fighting pretty intensely so it was a given that it would end soon.
I'm very proud of Chuck. I hope that Randy is not too crushed by this.
He is still one of my superheros.
Why do y'all think it turned out the way it did?
Because of the level of training they have achieved.
My hunch is that they were both fighting pretty intensely so it was a given that it would end soon.
That too.

I like them both, but I seem to lean towards Chuck more. Don't really know why, but they are both supperb fighters.
I wonder, though, Tony...
Sometimes when there are two excellent competitors, the game is slow as they (our hypothetical guys) both play conservatively.
I found it noteworthy that this fight went quickly. Both are magnificent fighters and, at least in my mind, it could have been a longer, more cautious fight.
Again, I hope Randy doesn't take it too hard. If I hadn't trained with Chuck's crew in SLO and bonded with them so strongly, and hadn't seen what kind of guy Chuck is within this circle (very decent, supportive, caring, and loyal), Randy would be my #1 favorite super-duper-hero.
I am so impressed by his good sense, professionalism, and especially by how he's done such a high-risk sport for so many years without mangling himself. He inspires me. I really hope that he gets over this loss.
And I am very, very proud of Chuck.
By the same token a great fighter may be more aggressive, prefering to act not react.
While I'm no great fighter, my fighting has changed depending who I'm fighting. I might come and try to overwhelm my opponent berfore thay have a chance to react, but of course that may backfire as we witnessed in the bout.
