has anyone here ever heard of canadian goju and is it legit i know theres lots of schools around but i took it 7 yrs ago and it was japanese goju but my sensei saind theyre organization has changed it to canadian goju anyway just wondering ?........

Legit is not a easy word to work with in the martial arts....

If by legit you mean, is headquartered in Japan / Okinawa, then no. And for a lot of people that is the only way something can be "legit"

They look like they are for real to me, too. I usually judge the "legitimacy" of the traditional karate ryu by their kata. I don't believe they have to be headquartered in Japan or Okinawa, but they should have some ties with the countries/founders of origin, and these are usually seen in the kata they do. There are good and bad organizations in every country, including Japan. But, there are standard kata for every ryu that are recognizably the same for every school in the particular ryu. The kata will not be done in an identical manner, but they are recognizable as the same, and the different versions are usually known to all ryu and accepted as standard variations. So, if in Goju someone shifts to a 45 degree angle in Seipei instead of a 90, fine. If they do flips or add high side kicks, look somewhere else. :wink2:
