  1. A New Experience

It is brisk outside, as the pale blue light of dawn listlessly breaks through the curtains of a foreign room. I can hear the dull lull of the motors from cars on the nearby freeway. It is 6:15 am and I have been lying quietly in bed now for 23 minutes pondering the soon to come events of today. Forth most upon my mind is my first fight. Being honest with myself I realize that I am anxious, slightly intimidated, eager, and desperately hoping for the invigoration that comes with a new outlook ...

  2. The Loss of Color

Martial arts will always give more to me than I take away from it. I do not want to fight for violence, but for the refinement of my skills. I do not want to compete for trophies, but to broaden my experience. I do not want a belt or rank to boast, but as a marker of my responsibility to my art. I canít help but train in martial arts, it is just who I am.

  3. Responsibility Falls upon me...Again

I suppose I should take this as a compliment. I have been asked to spear head the organization of our tournament enrollment and event planning for the Dojo. 4. The Distracting Student

I bow into the Dojo as the youth class is still in session. I pay close attention to my Sensei's words, even though they are not directed towards me they hold important and beneficial information. The youth class comes to an end, now is my turn to train. As soon as I step on the mat I look to the left and there he is. This student is always there, always watching me, always distracting me. Most of the time I can ignore him, but every so often I forget about avoiding him, and find his gaze upon ...

  5. To Lift or Not To Lift (Hard & Heavy)

Currently I feel I am in alright shape. I have a little larger build than most, and wouldn't mind trimming up a bit. Still I have a good amount of strength, dexterity, and endurance. For dexterity I practice my Karate and Parkour. For Cardio I run, more Karate, and Superset. For strength training I do a combination of calisthenics and weight lifting. I do not necessarily want to build bigger muscles, I wouldn't mind a little, but it isn't my goal at this point. I just feel that the low weight high ...
