Forum: Karate

I'm hopfully going to my first karate lesson tomorrow since I was about 12 years old!! What should I expect? I'm unsure which style it is as my mate told me about the club. Thanks.

All right, I've had some history with this org that makes me suspect they're a McDojo. However, others swear by them. So, I open it up to you: are they a McDojo or not?

that's the name of my karate club, but i'm not sure what the name actually means. i've learned that "bushi" means "warrior", but i don't know what "teko" means.

and i'm SCAAAAARRRED!!!! i can't believe i'm come so far in (what i feel) such a short time (4 years). if i get this grade i have to wait a whole year before i compete for my black belt. what's a black belt grading like, anyone?

This is probably a bit stupid question, but I've been wondering the use of hikite, drawing back the opposite hand while hitting. I don't see people do it much while sparring, but almost only in formal training. Is it considered to be some sort of help to gain deeper body control and comprehension...

I havent had adult Karate classes in years. If they wanted to take Karate they could do it in a youth class. Though I believe adults can benefit from the discipline most dont like it. (one of those good medicine taste bad, you dont want it but you need it things) What I usually do with adults...
