Can any one recommend a qualified silat instructor in chicago ? someone that teaches the real combat style osf silat and not the sport or warter down stuff... any adivce or recommendation is welcome thanks...email@example.com
Check out Mas Judt's group in Chicago as referenced in the earlier posting.. I know of another school that has ties to a couple of silat practitioners in the chicago land area.. You can get a hold of John Bedarnski at www.midwaykodenkan.com.. They are located at Archer and Pulaski.. I've know both John and Sam for a couple of years and trained with them when I was stateside... Good people and hard core trainers.. John also teaches Dekiti Tirsia Siradas of which I am a practitioner

I'm looking for a Silat school west of Chicago. I live about 40min - an hour west of Chicago. I'm looking for the most traditional form as I can find.
If I need to travel into the city, I will.
It would be an honor for me to study Silat, as I am first generation american from an Indonesian father and recently discovered my grandfather studied Silat.
Currently I am learning a mix of mantis, shaolin, and wushu, but would really love to find a place to discover the art of my roots.
Hey Victor, I was thinking about learning Silat myself so I've done a little research. There is a school in Worth Illinois that offers Silat classes. It's called A Center for the Martial Arts. I've not attended this school so I don't know how good it is. I'd post the link, but for some reason the forum won't let me. You can probably find their site easily enough through Google though.
I also know that the College of Du Page offers a style of Silat as part of it's physical education program. Check with them for further details.
Let me know how it goes if you decide to attend either class.
