    Default Too late??

Hey guys it's jeff. First I wanted to say thanks fo rall the great info on dojo's in ottawa canada. Now i have a question for you people. My girlfriend and I are in a dispute about my chances at becoming a contender. She seems to think that at 22 years old i'm past the age where i shoudl be looking at fighting in a professional sense considering I've done no amateur stuff at all. I try to be possitive and say as long as i'm dedicated I coudl still have a decent chance. I'm just wondering what you guys think, thanks a million Jeff

I don't think its too late at all. Bas Rutten got into full contact kickboxing late in his 20's. He had a few years of TKD and karate under his belt, but you are only 22. Are you talking olympic tkd? If so, I would say you are a bit too old for the olympics. Most olympic caliber tkd players start when they are really young.
I can say for certain you are not too old for a MMA career but you would need to add submission grappling into your training. Plus, you need to train you butt off on a very regular basis. Get crackin'!

22 is young. Could it be your girlfriend is looking to settle down into a more mainstream lifestyle? Most professional hopefuls hold down day jobs and train, train, train every minute of their free time. It is difficult to juggle a relationship with all the demands on your time.

That was my thought, exactly. I was also thinking that she may be worried about you suffering injury.

I think that your girl was just politely telling you that she's not really prepared to see you get your face beat in. And that will happen from time to time. But just ask Chuck (lidell) not to kick you in the face, and she'll be okay! heh heh

    Important questions that need answered!

    1) How important to you is competing in Mixed MA?

    2) How important to you is your girlfriendand? How does she feel about your doing Mixed MA?

    3) Can the two coexist?

When you answer these questions you will know what to do. For mixed MA your age is not the real problem!

    Peace
