Hyakuhachiho kata (Suparunpei in Shotokan??)
Hello
After my permanent pursuit on more or less forgotten or rated katas, has I stumbled over a Gojo ryu kata as certain "shotokan styles" has taken in their system. The Kata is called in Gojo ryu Suparunpei, but has been baptized to "Hyakuhachiho" (and has been modefied)
I am curious, and wonder how many "shotokan styles" who use this kata, and where i can find some film cuts or pictures on the kata.
Sorry... Iam not good in english...
//regards

Hi Sven,
we do suparenpei but we are Shorin-ji from the late Sensei Richard Kim, of Butoku Kai fame. Though he often told us where he got a kata and what style originally developed it, I did not hear about it for suparenpei, sorry.
You can view a slightly different version at

Suparimpei was based on a Chinese form called Peichurrin, which was used in systems such as Tiger Boxing and Dragon Boxing.
Suparimpei is practiced in Shito - http://www.shitokai.com/movies/suparinpei.php
Also in Goju - http://www.karate.neu.edu/video/1998JKFSuparinpei.WMVgroups.msn.com/johnstonkarate

JKA shotokan does not use Suparimpei. I think the Wado empei is the same as the shotokan empei (starts with right fist in left open hand at left hip, then right downward block 45 degrees while right leg bends?) no relation to suparimpei.

Uechi-ryu shares with Goju-ryu a similar Superempi kata. This is supposed to be the fourth kata that was never taught to Uechi Kanbun. It is not 100% sure that Superempi was part of the Pangainoon program.
Some members of the Soke Organization within the Uechi-ryu umbrella teach the kata. For the Kenyukai Organization we don't have anything to do with the lost kata.
Sean_Stoneheart and I were talking about CMA and Uechi-ryu. There is a CMA form that looks a lot like Superempi.Jabonn Flurry

I just watched those two vids linked above.
A lot of SCMA in them.
So what was the Chinese name of this Peichurrin form that's supposed to be contained in Dragon boxing (Lung Ying)?Message: Due to the ongoing Recession, God has decided the light at the end of the tunnel will be shut off due to power costs. That is all.

Anybody got any other links with Shito Ryu videos?
I should be able to play video from ted's site but I cant.
That Goju version defeinately has a different flavor than how we did it.
Looks good though.
