Korea HapKiDo Federation?

Does the Korea HapkiDo Federation exist? I’m starting to wonder, please let me explain. I have a student here in Australia who went to the supposed official rep & paid (almost $900.00) for 4th Dan KHF certification.

I have graded him to 4th Dan So he was not simply buying a belt but rather felt he needed or wanted a Official KHF Certificate.

Now I have zero interest in Dan’s & haven’t for some 18 years now, I’m an independent operator as I have learnt the hard way about the politics & slavery of schools, students & instructors to those selling certificates. So to avoid this & keep my students away from the nasties I went solo.

Now I don’t demand that students who want world certification don’t follow that up if that’s their wish. I simply ask that they make sure they are dealing with the correct official people.

This is where it all gets messy, I received a call from an old friend who owns one of Australia’s largest training centres about the certificate being a fake & the supposed rep being a fraud. I then asked the student to provide me with written verification from the KHF directly that:

1) The certificate is not a fake & is registered with them.
2) That the person involved is in fact their Australian representative.

He has provided me with a copy of an email from a Mr Gimm June confirming that the certificate is not a fake & is registered with the KHF & the person involved is the Australian representative.

Not heres the strange part, I did a little checking of my own & found the following:

The website that Mr June has comes up with some kind of generic Korean site similar to a search engine site for all things Korean?

His emails are not on any kind of official letterhead or noting any position or title.

I then go to the Korean website for the KHF & find that they have a page to list their official schools & reps but the page is blank. You try to use any of the other contact address & they come back as non-existent.

So It makes me wonder how an organisation that seemingly has no transparency & is non contactable can ever hope to be held as credible. I’m hoping that this is all some kind of mix up & my student hasn’t been ripped of but how am I supposed to check?

Can anyone please advise the quickest & cleanest way of checking.

Hi Mark.

There are many members here who can offer you information. Many of the members you seek answers from stick solely to the HKD forum. I have only heard of this group (Korean HKD Fed) and I believe there are threads already existing [in the HKD section] that you may be able to tie into for further response. Best of luck in finding your answers.

As you doubtless know, there is a lot of hype and posturing in KMA and their organizations. Master Gimm June is a legitimate Hapkido official with the KHF. Of course, that acronym has also been used by other organizations and a lot of confusion has resulted. Elizabeth's advice is the best. Post this question in the Hapkido forum. Master Hal Whalen is probably your best source of info on the KHF.

Unfortunately he is very very right on this....good news...we have many people in here that are the MEN when it comes to the KHF..such as Hal Whalen, Holcombe Thomas, and Fabian DuQuee....if these guys can't help you then it is pretty much hopeless..

Master Gimm June is the new official secretary of the Korea Hapkido Federation and he is now working at the KHF Headquarters office.
If he confirmed to you via e-mail that your student certificate is legitimate, you must take this as an official confirmation of legitimacy.
All ranks of the KHF and registered in a database.
Rigth now the Korea Hapkido Federation is reestructuring and working on many issues including International Relations.

Master Gimm June belongs to one of the Kwans of the KHF ( DUK MOO KWAN )
He is the Son of Grand Master Gimm Duk In.

I think The matter with your student certificate is not the fault of the KHF, but the person who is probably missrepresenting them in Australia.

As far as I know the KHF is still working on the new Website ( Hangul )
And the English website will be up soon.
Maybe Master Whalen can give you more ligth on this issue, since he is in constant contact with the KHF office.

The Koreahapkidofederation.com was made by a person who was expelled from the KHF a few years a go. This is not the official site of the Korea Hapkido Federation.
Unfortunately this site is still up and runing. that is why many of the e-mail addresses doesn't exist.
99% of the people in that website was posted over there with out their permission.
I will post the KHF information here later tonigh when I return from the dojang.

I talked with John Johnson about the situation he is aware as I have written to him and yourself concerning this matter the KHF has meeting with the senior committee and the questions and or complaints will be addressed and given to the proper people .
Unfortunately it difficult to police the Hapkido world ,and those here that know me know ,When i tell you I am looking into it and will find out the scoop ,I am not a politician and if I "piss people off " for doing what is right so be it.

Maybe you can mention the Masters name and some of his students maybe someone might know something ?

As far as anyone being expelled from the KHF the people managing the www.koreahapkidofederation.com website were welcomed with open arms last December and will be in Korea from December 6th to December 16th training with the Presidential Body Guards and several high ranking KHF Grand Masters. There is a radio show playing weekly about the KHF on www.ActionRadio.net
