Check out my friend's commercial
It's running on Spike TV in the Lake Charles, LA cable area:

The "tight" in camera angles are really nice, add a sense of urgency and quickly draw the eye.
Like the shot of the instructor with the bead of sweat running down his face. It says "We really work out here".
I'm no BJJ expert the technique looked pretty good to me. Using the female and younger jujutsuka shows the program is open to everyone.
Contact info is on screen during the entire ad, very good.
The only thing I might have changed is the font used for the titles, but that's a personal preference thing.
Nothing flashy and no stupid promises or promotions.
Comes across as serious and reputable.
Looks like a well put together ad to me!
Did an agency do this for your buddy, or is he into film editing himself?
Cheers

Yeah, that's really well-done little spot. I like the black and white, and the footage looks pretty clean, even over the internet. I also like how they focus on the art, instead of the whole, "HAVE I GOT A DEAL FOR YOU!!!" angle that most local advertisements have.

Nice Cliff. How much does an ad like that cost?
