Harpoon by C.W. Nicol.
Nicol is known for his book, Moving Zen, which chronicles his training in Shotokan Karate, in Japan, in the 60's. Bascially, he stayed in Japan.
Harpoon is a Clavellesque samurai story set in the 1840's. He's not as polished a writer as Clavelle, but knows his martial arts better. Lots of action. It's a fun read.

The Secret
I am currently re-reading The Secret by Rhonda Byrne. It is not a martial art book per say, but I tend to put a MA slant on everything.
Everything in this book can be applied to martial arts and the martial arts way of life. Basically it is about the "Universal Law of Attraction". If you think good thoughts, good things will happen. If you are a negative, pessimistic person, then negative situations are drawn to you. There is absolutely no denying this, but applying it is hard to do. Instead if saying "I wish I had a better spinning kick" or "I wish I was richer", you simply act as if you already have it. In acting more positive, it sends out more "positive" frequencies into the world, and is then drawn back to you. You have to read the book to fully appreciate it...

I've been looking for that in bookstores here. Imagine that, this is the Philippines and "Filipino Martial Culture" is not available here

Currently reading: this thread!
Don't do too much reading nowadays (though I SHOULD
). I suppose the last books that I was really into were the Harry Potter books (go ahead and laugh
).
Some other books in particular that I've read, and enjoyed, are:
The Lord of the Rings (J.R.R. Tolkien)
The Hobbit (J.R.R. Tolkien)
The Silmarillion (J.R.R. Tolkien)
The Five People You Meet in Heaven (Mitch Albom)
The Rainmaker (John Grisham)
The Client (John Grisham)
The Hunt for Red October (Tom Clancy)
Patriot Games (Tom Clancy)
All Quiet on the Western Front (Erich Maria Remarque)
That's about it. Well, there's one more that I read not too long ago and liked, but it was really kinda light-reading. Thai Boxing Dynamite, by Zoran Rebac. It's kind of an introductory book to Muay Thai, written back in the '80s. And some of the stuff I knew already, but I learned a few other little factoids that I didn't know before.
Like I said before, I don't get a whole lot of time to really sit down and read books. But if I did, I'd certainly have more to bring to this table. Oh well, maybe someday...

Just started Gone by Jonathan Kellerman. The author is a former child psychologist, whose main character, Alex Delaware is a child psychologist who solves crimes. I've been reading his stuff for years.

Currently reading Practical Homicide Investigation: Tactics, Procedures, and Forensic Techniques.
The book is written by Vernon J. Gerbeth. He's a 30+ year retired NYPD Detective Lieutenant, most of those as a Homicide Detective.
Exceptional book."I don't lift, too heavy. I don't run, too far. I just hit people.

That's a good one. We actually had to read that in Eskrima. Very interesting book.
