What Kit said. I'll be 50 next month and it is getting harder to do standup. I have my good nights and my bad nights. I find I love groundwork more and more, not because it's better or such, but because it's easier on my body, and yes in my younger days I did lots of groundwork as well as tachiwaza.
For most of the classes I teach, I will warmup the class with groundwork before we go onto standing practice.

Re-checking our training methods.
THis is off-topic, but we must alwasy re-check our training methods. There are a number of ways that you can reduce the wear and tearall the while getting as good or better of a practice, from both a technical perspective and in terms of fitness. Most often combative and combative sport players and teachers are not educators, therefore they lack the understanding and experience.
If anyone is interested in details regarding teaching please feel free to contact me directly.

How about a new thread topic. I find it interesting. I would like to hear more so I split it, except I screwed up and added Dennis post by mistake.
All well. Proceed Aaron."I don't lift, too heavy. I don't run, too far. I just hit people.

Dennis,
What about taking this opportunity to delve further into the jujutsu behind your Judo? Most of the techniques, even the throws, are performed against minimal to zero resistance, so you will find it easier to get your body into optimal position for ukemi. Should be easier on the old body. I know far more about it than I should for my age <sigh>.Before one can become successful, he must learn to tell the difference between what is impossible and what is merely difficult.
I am not a Doctor. The world has enough of those.
