My First Tournament
I just wanted to share with you all the out come of my first tournament! For background I am a white belt....I entered the forms and sparring.....men and women grouped together, and the rank went from white to orange belt. I placed first in forms, and third in sparring. YAY!
At the beginning of the tournament we all were told to learn one thing and bring it home to our dojo.....well this is what I learnt....
Holy cow they sure dont hold back in the sparring!!!! It ain't the regular dojo setting thats for sure!! The first round I got some VERY good "whaps" to the gutt.....the second round I did it to them before they could to me!
Anyways....just thought I would share and maybe remind you guys of the good old white belt days!!

Congrats! Was it your own style that you were facing only or was it an open tournament to all styles?

To Hapkido and Southwell....the tournament I was in was held in Sudbury Ontario, it was a fairly small one they tell me. I plan to attend the one in Sault Ste Marie in April....that one is supposed to be bigger. I train in Espanola, our club is called Go Ju Kai, and it is owned by Isreal and Alice Segarra (sp?) my Sensie is Steven St. Pierre.....there are other Dojo's around my area that also run with the Go JU Kai name under Isreal and Alice......I hope I explained this ok!
Do you happen to know of them?

Yes, I have heard of your Sensei Isreal, I think he has trained with my old Sensei, Ken Tallack.

Congradulations monica, you did very well for your first tournement. i agree...my first competition i was at (yesterday) i got 1st in kata and 3rd in sparring. the judging was a little unfair on my two matches...but it wasn't horrible. i also didn't like that it was teams. so basically i didn't win, my team did...but i still enjoyed it and would do it again.
...trying to come up with something amazing is giving me a headache.
