I may be mistaken but I believe that somewhere I have read about the ties and links between Chinese MA and Chinese Opera. Any one got anything?

They are definitely linked, thats where sammo hung, yuen biao, and jackie chan all came from, and i'm sure many more.
See the movie "painted faces".
However, this clip looks nothing like chinese opera.

That's an insult to Chinese Opera.

That was.... disturbing. Oh and by the way Capoeira is nothing like that! God that was creepy.

open mind
movies embelish all forms of the martial arts, i've seen Taekwondo look just as ridiculous in movies, we should not pass judgement on an art we haven't really seen in it's true, non movie form, some of the standing kicks i saw could give a Moo Duk Kwon veteran a hard time, the ground kicks and spinning were probably over dramatized to look good for the movie cause i can't imagine having the presence of mind, energy, or guts to try that in a real fight. I'm referring to Capoeira, the Kung Fu video was just sad, Bruce Lee must be doing subterrainean 360's right now.

That is very interesting. Where can I find more info on Malicia? it sounds very interesting: a sort of subculture which reminds me Leung Ting's (sic?) SECRETS OF THE VAGABONDS. Do you have a link?

I have to agree with WhiteBeltJones. The Kung Fu clip showed great artistry and very good athleticism. Of course it was just a stage production. I don't think they intended us to see it as anything else. Think "fundraiser." Having their physical ability would sure enhance my core training in TKD.

true the capoeirista has fallen, but all in all it was a choreographed movie somone has to lose, and when that one person does is most likely going to cause controversy. All i say to each his own.
Do not misjudge a Martial art for its movement, instead judge the character, for he has the power to dedicate himself..

Maybe it was the "New Wave Shaolin Rendition Of Cats!"
Capoeria is pretty cool. My old roommate studied it for a long time. I found before I moved in when I went hang out with him and there was some interesting music playing when I got there. There are a lot of neat takedowns in Capoeria. I thought it was purely striking but I was way off."Even a journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step."

Capoeria and Muy Thai
I had taken a little of Capoeria and Muy Thai. Neither art in that video looked like what we did. I guess that this is a classic example of Movie-Fu or Hollywood-Ryu.

I saw that flick. It was a fun movie, at least.

I realize you think you understand what you thought I said, but what I am not so sure about is whether what you think you heard is what I think I meant.
