mat time question
How often do you spar in class? What percentage of your training is dedicated to sparring (in the do jang)?

In a 'standard' one hour class, about 10 minutes will be devoted to free sparring, 10 minutes to one-step-sparring. Not all classes follow this format - some nights are almost all sparring, many nights have none at all.

We spar every class night, my schools open 5 days a week during the summer and 7 days a week during the fall & winter.

So, only 15% of class is spent on forms, one steps, self defense, basics, breakfalls, history, breaking, terminology, and conditioning? Except for breaking, I would say all these are more important than sparring.

In a 2 hour lesson we spend 15 to 25 minutes free sparring.
The rest of the class is something like this:
5-10 minutes on one step/three step sparring; 5-10 minutes on self defence; 45 miniutes on cardiovascular/endurance/strength exercises: basic techniques are included as part of this regime.
About 20 minutes of the lesson is dedicated to teaching a specific topic which changes lesson to lesson (but half the time it looks at basic techniques and forms), so this can sometimes cross over with other parts of the curriculum including free sparring. We recently did boxing practice which was in addition to the normal 20 minutes free sparring.
The remaining time is split between techniques and forms.I learn something new everyday.
