It's actually pretty bad - his wife is trekking in Tasmania and hasn't been in contact. I really hope she doesn't hear second hand.

I read that in the article. I wish they had not released the information until they had contacted her.

I really liked Mr. Irwin. I was really upset with the local NBC broadcast of the death when all they seemed to want to talk about was when he fed a croc with his baby in his arms back in 2004. Yeah, he shouldn't have done that, but this was not the time to bring that up.
Mr. Irwin definately had a brilliant understanding of animal kung fu. He knew how to maneuver around the dangerous animals he worked with. He just made some sort of mistake with this stingray.Larry Barber

This is a big time sad day for me. I really liked the guy and what he represented.

I read that they didn't release his identity to the media until his family had been notified.

He was the only guy that could say "Crikey" and not look like a tool, one of the Aussie bouncers in Glasgow that I worked with knew him before he got well known and says he was a very gennuine guy who regularily put himself on the line to protect animals and people. It's a sad loss.

I can hardly belive it, he was a real embassador for conservation, a great guy. I guess he died doing something he loved...and I'm sure he'd say...it wasn't the ray's fault, I'm in his environment.

It's sad his children will grow up without their father. But with all the video footage of him over the years, and the conservation work he's done I'm sure they'll understand the man their father was.

While I wasn't a big fan of the show, (I do not like snakes) I do have great respect for what he has done to popularize nature and it's creatures.
