What's in Taegu

I am not very surprised to hear that a student of GM Lee is so successful. The man was so generous, and gracious. When I visited, it was during my friends Poomse class that GM Lee was teaching. When I arrived, he invited me into his oiffice, and was very curious about me, asking alot of questions and being very friendly. We shared tea, and he insisted I follow him over to a computer and look at his webpage. He gave me an autographed certificate with his picture meeting Queen Elizebeth, and an autographed copy of some Korean Taekwondo magazine featuring him on the cover. He was very kind to me, something that I was surprised about considering I am basically a nobody in the TKD world. For him to invite me to tea, and spend even a few minutes chatting and offering me some momentoes says alot about him as a person. Though I have to be honest, he is friends with my Master back in America, GM Jun Lee, so knowing I was a student of his, perhaps had something to do with the generosity he showed me. Either way, I was totally impressed with him, and to me, meeting him on that rainy fall afternoon, after tea and watching him go into very intricate details about poomse as the rain fell through orange and red leaves outside that practice room is something I will never forget.

Probably the best Taekwondo experiece I have had since being in Korea. If it werent that Keimyung University is so expensive, I would be a student there next spring.

To idma...I dont know what your schedule will be, or if you are interested, but you are welcome to come by my dojang and practice Taekwondo if you are interested. By the time you come here, there will be 2 Taekwondo students from India who are affiliated with my master back in America, who will be coming to spend time training at my college. I am told they are ranked pretty high in the competition rankings in India, so If you are interested, and schedules permit, we can all get together for some training. Afterwards of course, we can take you to the best Brewery/Restaurant in Daegu!!!!!

GM Jun Lee has his headquarters school in Raleigh, North Carolina. He is the 2nd oldest of six brothers who came to America to teach Taekwondo. The oldest brother GM H.K. Lee, is in Herndon VA, while all of the younger brothers are spread across NC.

If I can get some free time, I hope to travel this year to the Hanmadang, though I'm not sure if I can get time during the week.

Yeah, GM Jun Lee as some exchange programs with several universities in Korea, to brink Koreans instructors to America to teach, while sending American student to Korea as part of the exchange. Most of the Korean Interns there in Raleigh came from my college Daekyeung College, while 2 of the others came from Kyungwon University. There are also students coming from Wusok University as well. Some of those interns have tournament championship records and awards that list longer than my arm.

Many people might feel that my dojang in America is a McDojang, because we do offer a "young Tigers" class, there are several school vans, 3 schools in the Raleigh area, as other things that I have seen listed here that people feel are signs of a McDojang. I can speak personally becuase I train with him, he does not give a belt out easily, and I can also say as a fact, that students of his have alot more requirements they must forfiill for a new belt that any school I have heard about here in Korea.

GM Jun Lee is a great businessman, and a renowned teacher as well. He does seminars at many universities in Korea to university Taekwondo students about how to run a successful Taekwondo school. One of the great benefits of studying with someone who has not only a successful business, but being a great teacher as well, is the fact that because he is sucessful, he can offer services and special events that others cannot. For example, Just before i left, we had 2 Korean Sword Masters come from Korea to teach a seminar to our students. It was not open to the general public, just to students of GM Jun Lee and his brothers spread across NC and VA. Though there was a fee for the seminar, it did not cover the cost of the airfare, hotels, and other expenses incurred. GM Lee made up the difference to provide his students with a unique experience with these 2 sword masters.

Another benefit, is that anyone who is college age or older, and in a posistion to travel for an extended period of time, can come to my college here in Korea and live and train free of charge. They can live in the dormitory, eat at the cafeteria, and spend their days taking a number of different martial arts classes. When I came, 2 other students from a school in FL that is owned by a student of GM Lee, came along with me. They only stayed one semeseter, and went back home to pursue college, but I have been here almost 2 years now, and I will graduate this winter with an associates Degree in Taekwondo Education

As I mentioned, I would like to transfer to Keimyung University and continue my studies in Taekwondo. But I wont be getting a scholarship there, and tuition is about 6,000 dollars a year for the Taewkwondo department. I simply cant afford it. But that option is available to me.
