Taxi Cab Issue
http://www.usatoday.com/money/biztra...-in-usat_x.htm
Just heard about this today. Are these drivers independent or are they employees of a cab company?

Imagine the uproar if a Christian cab driver refused to transport someone based on some religious belief.

I can't believe they're allowing that. That crap would never fly in NYC.

What martial art should you practice? Ask the advisor.

So if I grab a quick hot dog then they will also refuse my fare? How about if I am bringing back pancetta from Italy?

Its the priciple of the matter. Discriminating against others based on religious views is fundamentally un-American.

I suspect someone will eventually sue the cab companies and the issue will eventually go to court.

You're my age, so you should remember the "Blue Laws" when nothing could be open on Sunday except grocery stores, and they could only open after 12 noon and they had to rope off the aisles that didn't have food on them.

Our neighboring county (Bergen) still has it, except it is for clothing or the like. Food is exempt.

How is one suspected of toting alcohol?
The story indicated there was suspicion that the drivers were refusing the passengers due to short fares, and using the alcohol/religion as an excuse.
If that is true, I think EVERY passenger should confess to toting loads and loads of alcohol. Every last one of them. Than these drivers would NEVER get a fare. I have ridden in taxis all over the world and I have never known a driver to take an interest in a passenger past small talk.
I remember the Blue Laws well. Many here still think repealing the laws was a mistake. Not for religion. Not for income. But for family. Many of my friends still strive to have one day a week (any day) free to spend with family. No shopping. No errands. No chores. No nothing. I am not that organized.
