Japanes language
Just purchased
a Rosetta Stone program for learning Japanese. I have both 1 and 2 levels. Wondering if any one has used it. From what I looked at, this seemed to to be the best. Ant thoughts on this. I am looking forward to using it.
Thanks much.

I've only tried the demo but it seems to be a great compliment to actual lessons. However, I noticed a lack of any information regarding grammar in the demo, so i'm not completely sure about just using that, by itself, to learn any language.

I was considering this program as well. Let me know how it works out. I liked the demo seemed to be an effective way of learning a language, so would be nice to hear others opinions on it.

What I understand about it and from talking with the sales person, the program I have has a voice recognition on it so that it will tell you if you are saying the word correctly. I bought a spanish kit also for teaching. Will keep you all posted as to the worth of them. They are not cheep.
Thanks much.

Watakshi-wa Nihon-go dekimasen.
It would have to be better than the wretched volume which I studied for a time while on Okinawa during my stint in the Navy. That was entitled Conversational Japanese for Beginners. It was a new book I had purchased in the Navy Exchange store but must have been a reprint. The chapter for buying things in the market had the reader paying for bread in Sen (1/100th of a Yen). I dropped it in the trash when I came upon the totally useless conversational phrase "I shot him with a revolver."
I kind of gave up after that. About all I remember how to say is "Mizuwari-wa kudasai." And since I swore off drinking in 1978, even that is no use to me any more.

My issue with the philosophy behind Rosetta Stone aside, I'm sure it could be a handy supplemental training, but no match for a real teacher who can give you feedback on your work.
