U.S. Soldier plead guilty to rape and murder
From the BBC News bulletin.
"A US soldier has pleaded guilty to raping an Iraqi girl before helping kill her and her family."
What happens now? Does he face punishment in the military system? If so what kind of punishment is possible?Unleashing my inner bodyguard!

Yes and the US military has the death penalty, but if convicted, he will likely get life in prison.

I am actually kind of hoping for the death penalty in this one, because some Iraqis kidnapped some innocent soldiers and tourtured and killed them in retaliation for this.

I heard during the news at lunch that he plead guilty as part of a plea agreement and for his testimony against two other soldiers. So he gets out of the death penalty. On the other hand, the other two are still facing the death penalty of found guilty.

Regrettably, it is unlikely. No one has been executed by military conviction since 1961.

At times like this I get really disappointed. To see these guys throw away something I longed for so long. Not only that but the henious nature of the crime. I'm not so upset with the soldiers but really feel sorry for the victim and family. People who probably looked to us as saviors but instead got monsters of the worst kind.
