You're right, I did, sorry. But in general, wouldn't sound teaching methods enhance the ability of a student to identify the biggest threat from the adversary (whether an open-handed or weapon attack)? Jason was badly blindsided in both episodes and seemed overly locked into his paradigm*.

The point is he actually thinks about what he's going to teach, and plans out lessons several weeks in advance so it gets taught well. A lot of instructors don't have a system like that. Also, it's not necessary to follow Eddie's system, but if you're going to teach anything you should look at it and see what he has done. . . .
This sounds great Robin, really does. And I do realize this was the key point you wanted to emphasize in your post above (my additional commentary to follow notwithstanding).

Where I come from, and given that this is in a combatives, not sport-grappling thread, jiu-jitsu begins standing and may end up on the ground.

The Marines skewered Jason on the ground (paraphrased quote: "I didn't know he had a knife", then he looked around as if pleading to the ref).

*The paradigm I referred to earlier appears to be an MMA grappling paradigm, vs. an FMA paradigm.
