Supposed to be an encore presentation either Friday or Saturday evening (I forget which) so you still have a chance to grab it.

OK, I take it all back. The escrima episode was awful. Very little of it accurate, they sensationalized a bunch of stuff ("human cockfights", give me a break), and only highlighted one system of FMA. They completely ignored all the other systems or even that Arnis is taught to all students in the high schools. I sincerely hope that Gaje and Canete were just having a good laugh at these folks expense. Wrestling a water buffalo as a training method?!? What a crock! I guarantee if those sticks they were fighting with were actually steel rods with thin foam, several of those wrist strikes would have shattered the bones in their hands.

    Oh well, I had hopes...

I saw toward the end, at the very end of their trainign with the GM, and then the fight. He took some really nasty shots, if that really was a steel bar he would have been done in the first round. I know I personally have busted a few fingers here and there with rattan, I can't imagine what it would be like with steel.

It would have been interesting to see the big guy fight too. In the previous show they both fought, I wonder why there was only one fight this time?

The inside line says there is going to be a few "dog" shows. They have a number of producers that work on several shows each. It is the same with the crews. I know they hard a hard time with the FMA and the Greek show sounds like it may be rough. I have my fingers crossed for judo and sombo, as those two that I put the most work into. We'll see.....

Well they made alot of mistakes that is for sure and yet the FMA episode was better overall than the Muay Thai one in my opinion. Still I wonder why they felt a need to say that the padded sticks they were sparring with had steel in them.

I am not really disappointed in the show because I sorta expected it to stink. However, I am looking forward to the Judo episode. With Aaron consulting, that leaves hope, and besides, I am looking forward to seeing the big guy bounce off the tatami repeatedly.

I just saw two episodes last night (Muay Thai and Escrima).

The inaccuracies are fustrating as are the sparring challenges at the end.

I bet I hate the Karate show.

I liked the Escrima show. There is going to be an inverse relationship between how much one is familiar with the featured art and the level of appreciation for the episode.

Aaron, Robert is setting you up! If the judo and sombo shows suck, he is going to blame you!

I too am looking forward to the big guy getting tossed around by a judoka about half his size (hopefully), and hopefully finished off with a choke, the camera panning in on his frustrated face turning purple. I am STILL wondering why the hell they hired him for that show.

Since he's not the producer, then he won't get the blame. If it's good, he'll get the credit though!

Me too! He's clumsy, has no real training in anything except wrestling, and doesn't have the slightest clue what the heck he is doing or have any real knowledge of the Asian Martial Arts. The water buffalo in the last program was more photogenic, and the lines they give him (and the one's he comes up with on his own) make him sound like a dope.

It sure looked like Gaje and Canete had a bet going on who could be the more outrageous. Focusing so much on the Doce Pares was like devoting the whole show to Stephen Hayes and saying it represented the whole of Japanese arts.

    Default Human Weapon Does Karate

It was nice that they actually covered some real Okinawan Karate, but did anyone notice Big Guy during the very first sequence with the Shuri-te folks was punching a little funny? If you looked very closely at his right hand when they showed a close up of his punch, he had his thumb tucked under his first two fingers. Too bad they did not show the sensei having to show him how to make a proper fist!!

There was definately a fair amount of fluff but it was nice to see things taken pretty seriously and have them dealing with what appeared to be very credible and serious master's of their art. I would have appreciated a little more exploration into styles and what made them different and similar from others. A discussion of the influence of JJJ into certain ryu would have been very interesting as well...

If they only had the MMA guy, then average Joe's would think "well he is already a fighter, he fits right in." I think they use the bigger guy, to make it more of an oppurtunity for people not currently in anything, to think hey maybe I could do that.
