Hey Alain,
Bob is a great guy and full of lot's and lot's of wisdom. His book Martial Arts America is great as well as his Silat book's and DVD's. Personally I am looking forward to having him up to Alma again next year and let me tell you that everyone will need groin protection.

Brian,
You are right, Bob is a great guy with a lot of knowledge. I have his books and dvds (I also offer them at my site under the Martial Art titles) and enjoy seeing him each summer when I go down to Colorado. He is an excellent martial artist and instructor, and yes he likes those groin shots. :-)

Good article. Don't quite agree with his recommendation though. In my experience steel muay thai cups are the most comfortable, and they also offer the best protection. I've heard some horror stories of plastic cups breaking, collapsing inwards, pinching the penis and ripping the foreskin. I'd rather take an unprotected strike to the groin than have that happen.
Steel cups have better padding, so there's not much rubbing raw around the edge of the cup, and I find they stay in place much better and are also shaped better. Since wearing a steel cup I haven't had a single case of cup sliding and crushing my balls between the thigh and cup. The only discomfort is that the string sometimes rides up the butt crack, but if you're training hard it doesn't register at all.Robin Ashe
