    thumbs up Macp-h2h

Well, I don't think I've made any secret of the fact that I'm no fan of Brazilian jiu-jitsu for tactical applications. Surprisingly, I do like the "H2H Book" by Greg Thompson.
Unfortunately, it appears that is program is only being offered to Special Forces?? I should be an infantry platoon leader in the National Guard by this time next year--does anyone know if there's a way I could get set up with this training?

    Thanks!

No idea at all Jason. I DO think you should dig deeper into MACP though, since it is NOT BJJ. When you become a platoon leader, your platoon is hostage to you, so you can teach them whatever the heck you want. Also, keep in mind that MACP is MANDATED by Dept. of the Army to be taught down to PLATOON LEVEL. So if you decide to scrap MACP and implement some other program, you will be in violation of Army policy.

I recommend that you stick to the party line, and supplement the training with what YOU think is effective. I also recommend that you ask your commander's and platoon sergeant's opinion before you do this though.

That's pretty much exactly my plan. I was just wondering if I could get into the new school!

    Thanks!

What new school exactly, Jason? Have you looked it up in ATRRS?

No, I haven't. The way it is presented in the book makes it sound like school, but I could just be reading into it.

I am still not sure what you are talking about. There are MACP schools all over the country. There have been for quite a few years now. Your unit should have ALREADY sent NUMEROUS unit members to get certified.

If you are talking about some school that you read about in the book you mention, my guess is that is going to be the author's private dojo that he is hyping just to get more students.

Are you talking about Greg Thompson's school on Ft. Bragg? I think it's open to almost anybody. They put out fighters pretty regularly and almost always have someone representing their school at the amateur fights that go on down here.

That would be it! I'm glad to hear it's open to all... But try getting a slot for even MACP level I as an enlisted soldier in the Missouri National Guard! Or Squad Designated Marksman, or pretty much anything except "EO" school... Well, that's not quite true... if you're an MP and you do well on your APFT, they send you to AIRBORNE school... because that's so useful. /rant

I never did any time in the national guard, only the active Army, so I'm not sure how it works. If your active and on a major post getting combatives certification is really easy.
Edit: I believe that almost all officers wind up doing level 1. I'm not sure at what point though. Maybe the captains career course?

Jason, again check ATRRS. Also, check with your local RTI. It is EASY to get training billets - MUCH easier in the Guard than regular Army.
