    Default Women Do Not Sweat....

As the old saying goes: Women do not sweat - we perspire.

I was telling someone today how much I loved my spinning instructor because she actually....OM word.... SWEATS! That makes me feel right at home.

In fact I always feel uncomfortable around these workout bunnies that have perfect hair and make-up after training with not a drop of perspiration. There I stand with a beat red face, damp hair, and a noticeable shine to my skin. Yea, I feel double dumpy and gross - GRRRR.

I especially love the comments like, "Oh my gosh, you are all sweaty." All I can think is, "Nooo, really?"

So lets hear your sweat stories and all the obnoxious things people have said.

I remember one woman who would refuse to partner up with certain men because "They were always sweaty."

    Thumbs up

Sounds like those "workout bunnies" want to have their cake and eat it too; benefits of exercise without the exertion real exercise entails.

The moment for me have always been at home when someone picks up one of my gi jackets I have just finished using and have hung up to air before washing. They always notice the difference in weight because of the moisture with something along the lines of 'is this all sweat?'

I was watching a TV show a few nights ago which had a segment on that Yoga variety that is done is almost sauna conditions. The proper name escapes me at the moment. But it was one of those shows where 'celebrities' make insightful comments and one from a woman was something like 'oh, I just couldn't be in a room full of sweaty people urrgh'. I laughed.

Duirng the rainy season (winter) I don't often sweat- the gym is cold so I'm too busy conserving heat during other seasons I sweat though.

Are these women actually doing any real exercise? If you're not sweating, you're not working out. (Unless you've got a really cold gym, as Debra points out.)

That's not dumpy or gross - that's hot! (Speaking just for myself as a heterosexual male.)

HA! When I used to work corporate wellness/fitness back in the day before I went back to grad school my first job out of college was at General Motors in Kansas City. We had a high percentage of females who were African American and they used to say that all the time. That was the first thing I thought of when I saw this thread.

    lol
    Funny responses.

I have been told that sweating can be attributed to diet. Perhaps I am overly fond of all the wrong foods..... As weight has never been a primary concern of mine, I have a tendency to go straight for the double stacked cold cut sandwiches, etc. YUMMMMM!!!

I would like to research that a little further. I sweat alot, always have, and I have never read anything to support that...interesting.

I do not have any hard and fast facts to substantiate or deny any truth to it.

I guess to me it makes sense - can you guess who in the dojang had garlic on a given day?

I think what foods you eat can influence the odor of perspiration, but not the amount.

Some people are really sensitive to it too. My dear mum can always tell if I've had pizza (with garlic bread) in the last few days.

I must be the odd-ball, because I definitely sweat! lol
I often come home from class with the entire top of my gi soaked through. Showers always feel better after that though.

I could not find any images that completely embraced that "Truly Gross" look. I guess no one wants to take my picture when I reach that point.

I hope this isn't the wrong thing to say, but I like to check out the women at the gym who are having a real workout.

The bunnies simply don't interest me - can't take them seriously.
I realize you think you understand what you thought I said, but what I am not so sure about is whether what you think you heard is what I think I meant.

I'm an old fat guy who is working on conditioning. I was doing one step sparring with my daughter in class when the instruction said to grab someone by the hair and then execute a hapkido wrist lock. My daughter grabbed my dripping hair and pulled her hand back quickly. I don't sweat I drip. This Irishman's face gets red and I suck air and I drip.

I think that's more of a 'Mum's know everything' thing than a 'other humans' thing.

My mates can tell that I've eaten pizza too, but that's just 'cause I eat so much of it...
