Aunkai
Has anyone heard of this or attended one of the seminars? I am clueless.

Hey Russ, long time no contact.
Yeah, I have, and it's good stuff in my opinion. Hard to judge by what you see online alone.
PM me if you want more details.Neil Yamamoto

I've seen some on video, but unfortunately never felt it. Not much of an educated opinion here, but I get the impression that there's a lot of focus on developing various connections in the body, and their coordinated movement while maintaining those connections. That's probably the surface though. I'd like to train with Ark or Rob one day.
FYI You may be able to find some threads about Aunkai on one of the other boards.Last edited by STORMCROW34; 04-08-2009 at 18:47.

Thanks Russ. If things were a little different around here, I wouldn't hesitate to make a trip up to Atlanta...but oh well, maybe next year. I've been messing around with some of the body training exercises like ashiage and mabu. I do them on my off nights from the dojo before I go through my kata and suburi. Nothing too extensive though because I am not sure if I am doing them with correct focus and breathing. Man I wish I could go!

There's a seminar for that stuff supposed to be happening here in Atl this summer.
I don't know really what to make of it because the website I got from the guy that posted it on another board was a mix of Japanese & English. I don't read Japanese & the English wasn't much help to me.Message: Due to the ongoing Recession, God has decided the light at the end of the tunnel will be shut off due to power costs. That is all.

Its really hard to tell what's going on from the videos. If you have a chance contact Rob and go visit in Tohyo. Feel free to join us in Seattle the first weekend in May.
Its good stuff and hard work..

Hello Jeremy. I'm quite curious about this sort of thing. Would you mind telling us a little about their training methods? Is it alot of solo time? If that is the case, then maybe attending a seminar wouldn't be such a bad investment.

Bear in mind that I'm not an Aunkai student. I did one class with them in Tokyo and have been to two seminars in the US and a mini one day thing in Seattle a few years ago. Not the definitve Auinkai expert.
There's lots of solo training in the Aunkai. The hitch being that a person has to be shown and how to feel what's correct. Its hard to tell from video what's acutally going on in a person's body and having Ark to demo and correct hands on is really important. Tenchijin can look just like at squat and it is, its also more.
Send me a pm or an email and I'm happy to talk a bit more. Or track down Rob John online and I'm sure you'll get an earful (in a good way).
