Indonesian Silat... Kris?
I believe that the Kris is used in Silat, as Sigung Keith Moffett did a seminar at the school I train at (1 of his students is a 4th Dan and Combat Hapkido Instructor there) and I am all but certain he mentioned it's use...
That being said I really am interested in this weapon... But I don't play around with weapons and I want WEAPONS... not showpieces. Long story short, where can I find a SHARP one.
Also, anyone willing to share information on silat or the kris PM me or shoot me an email just let me know what you're emailing about so I don't delete it if you go that route.
Thanks all!

The Kris is usually not employed as a weapon, most are seen as magic talismans. They can be used, and very effectively, but that is not their primary purpose. Traditional Indonesian kris are designed to break if not used correctly, e.g., lateral slash-type strikes will snap off the handle. As far as the mystical traditions go, there are many ways one should "test" a kris to see if it is "good" for you, as well as determine it's "purpose", and gauge it's mystical strength.
DISCLAIMER: This is definitive only within the context of my pencak silat experience and knowledge, which is emphatically not totally comprehensive.

The kris in several lengths is a common weapon among the south Pacific Muslim communities such as the Moros of the southern Philippines. Here is one source for good blades.

Sweet. All advice is appreciated. I saw the traditional filipino weapons site earlier this week, due to reading of it on another thread here. Their stuff is pretty 10-8 if I must say so myself...
