Family is back from vacation, and they really chubbed out...
I spent the last 6 or so weeks holding down the fort here at home while they gallivanted around Eastern Canada; the Wife, the In-Laws, and three kids all in a minivan for 6 weeks. Not my idea of fun.
But while they were away, they ate their meals as a combination of sandwiches, starchy snacks, and fast food. It really shows.
I weighed my oldest son who is 9 before they left, and the night he got back, and he is exactly 20 lbs heavier (91-71 lbs) after 2 months of pigging out and sitting in the car! It is really frightening.
My wife just says "I know, can you believe it?" when I ask her about it... I just have to shake my head and move on. Apparently, since he didn't want to go on the trip in the first place (not that I blame him), they spent the entire time stuffing him full of snacks to shut him up like a goose prepping for pate.
Now that they are back home here, with my home cooking, I can get them back to a reasonable weight. The two youngest fared better, probably because they didn't fuss as much in the car so they didn't get stuffed all day long.
Whereas I had them used to eating a late breakfast at ~10:30am, then a small snack before naptime, followed by a decent dinner, they got used to three big meals plus in-between snacks while on vacation. That's going to need an adjustment.
Tonight will be Chargrilled London Broil with fresh spinach and possibly a Romaine salad on the side, with homemade low-carb blueberry ice cream for dessert. Before one can become successful, he must learn to tell the difference between what is impossible and what is merely difficult.

Your dinner sounds awesome! So I have experienced gaining weight easily on a diet of junk food before, I guess I didn't think youngsters could have it happen to them so quickly. Might be a good idea for them to take along things for the kids to do next time to break the boredom. Like the little game boys and things like that. Also I know that my cousin takes a bag of candy, but only gives out like a piece or 2 at a time for a reward. It seems her daughter is still ready for a good meal, and doesn't gain too much weight that way. It's kinda hard to find a good meal on the road anyway, it takes some work.
Now I have been on a long road trip with my sister and her twin daughters who were 3 at the time. I would have done ANYTHING to get those kids to shut up and behave! LOL I mean I would have hunted down Mickey Mouse and kidnapped him for them if that's what it took! LOL So I guess I don't much blame them for giving the kids food to keep them happy.

Mad Monk, you have a recipe for the homemade low-carb ice cream?

Now you see why I stopped posting in the blog section? Nobody was reading them

http://www.budoseek.net/vbulletin/en...-Cream-tonight
To make the blueberry instead of the chocolate, I substituted vanilla whey protein powder instead of chocolate, and cut back the truvia packets to 8 instead of 13, since the blueberries were going to add some sweetness. I tasted it all before I added the egg yolks.
So, I guess it ended up looking like this:
2 c heavy cream
1 c unsweetened almond milk
2 c blueberries, rinsed
1 scoop vanilla whey protein powder
1 pinch salt
6 large egg yolks
8 packets Truvia
2 packets Splenda
The rest as usual. The family really loved this one too. Maybe next week I will try it with Strawberries. Before one can become successful, he must learn to tell the difference between what is impossible and what is merely difficult.
