35 Years Ago Today
On January 24th, 1976, the George Foreman-Ron Lyle slugfest took place at Caesar's Palace in Las Vegas.
Foreman had been boxing's Heavyweight Champion after defeating Joe Frazier in 1973 for the title, but lost it the following year, in the "Rumble in the Jungle" with Muhammad Ali, in Zaire. Ali stopped Foreman in the 8th round of that fight. Lyle challenged Ali for the title in 1975, and was leading on points on the scorecards of all three judges, before being stopped by Ali in the 11th round.
Both Foreman and Lyle were trying to fight their way back to a shot at the title. From the end of the 1st round on, it was bombs away. Howard Cosell and Ken Norton were the announcers for the ABC broadcast. Here is the fight in it's entirety: http://www.videolog.tv/video.php?id=230857What Happened to Harley Hall?
