Cliff, being a traditional karate stylist I must say I admire your desire. I think we all yearn to get back to our roots at one time or another. Shito-Ryu has very deep Shorin-Ryu roots. If I can help you at all please feel more than free to ask.
One must remember that karate is about thinking. Combat is about thinking. Battles are not won by the weapons that are brought but by the strategies that are employed.

I'm on a hiatus myself. Trained for 5 years, got injured and then had my work clash with the dojo schedule, so I stayed off for 5 years. Started again and after half an year we left the country for a 6 month stay in NYC. We did this the next year and probably we'll do it again now. It's not pleasant to not be able to train with my mates as I used to,but on the other hand life offered me SO MUCH in these years, so I shouldn't complain. Not to mention that I know that, anytime I want to come back, my sensei is happy to see me

I'm back..again! I'm going to start back training this Thursday. I'm sure these old bones and joints will protest greatly, but I feel a deep need for some good old "dojo tattoo's"!
hope everyone is doing well?!-Jason Walker-

There might be some more retired practitioners nearby. Perhaps you could bring them out of retirement for a few practices per week.
Might not be a teacher/student environment but more like the karate version of getting the guys together for open mat, if that makes sense.
Could be really cool.I realize you think you understand what you thought I said, but what I am not so sure about is whether what you think you heard is what I think I meant.
