Another New Toy.
I've decided to retire my Colt Agent as a backup/off-duty weapon. Thus, I got me this new beauty. It's only my second revolver.
S&W Bodyguard.

Nice Tony ...I am assuming you are loading it with +p JHP's ? I'm surprised, I would have thought you'd have gone for a sub compact Glock 26/27 ..but I like the S&W too.

The S & W Bodyguard series are some very good, light weight concealment weapons. I'm considering their .380 with laser as my L.E. back up. It's flat, light, and not terribly expensive. Either the revolver or semi auto would be a good choice.

Great weapon Tony. You can't go wrong with a revolver. As a LEO, can you get +P+'s? I would think this would put you pretty firmly into a .357 Magnum field of power. The frame on this piece might not be able to handle it though.

Yes, I can get plus P's. One of the reasons I got the pistol. For one, as an LEO that seems to be all that's available. Can't seem to get regular .38's rounds anymore. You see, I get my rounds issued to me. The other reason, is the new revolvers are rated for those types of rounds unlike the 'ole Colt.

No, +P+, not +P....I can get +P at Wal-Mart. 9mm +P+, for example, generates over 38,500 psi and is thus not SAAMI-compliant. Since your revolver is aluminum framed, this type of ammo will probably blow it up though. Probably shouldn't have mentioned it.

Oops, I missed the additional +. You are probably correct.
Also, believe it or not, it is sometimes it easier for the civilian market to get ammunition than it is for LEO. We've had many manufactures cut back or completely stop stocking the LEO market as there is no profit margin. It happened to us with Federal. But, that is beyond the scope of this thread.
Cool. I look forward to reading it.I have just tapped away my first blog post in support of the wheelgun. Yay!"I don't lift, too heavy. I don't run, too far. I just hit people.

I purchased a S & W Bodyguard this afternoon. This is the first gun I have ever owned.

I plan to check out the local gun clubs, I hear I can get a family membership at most of them, I'll make out like a bandit.

I'd love to as well. It would be a blast to shoot with you, Dennis. If a basic, NRA-approved course is available, I would highly recommend you take it. The learning curve for a revolver is very short. Is this weapon going to be carried, or a home defense piece?
Even if no course is available, you can't go wrong with using this as much as possible. Get good with it - different positions, different angles, quick drawing and wasting the target. You know what they say.."Beware the man with only one gun......he knows how to use it". Make this so.

I took a hunter safety course years ago, that's probably different than one for a pistol. There's a Sportsman Club nearby that offers a lot of variety
http://www.hollidaysburgsportsmensclub.com/
I plan to check them out. I hope to do some of this with my sons, I figure that's the best way to teach gun safety.
It would be great to one day get together with you guys !

The main reason is home defense, something I can grab real quick. I purchased a lock box that is now sitting next to my bed. It has an electronic keypad. I can open it in less than 3 seconds. The gun is secure but accessible. My son Sean has a 20 gauge in his room and 30-06 but they are not as accessible.
I bought the gun at a local shop owned by a long time friend. He told me he has never had a year like this past one. Not too much in the way of hunting sales, over the top sales in Personal Defense type sales. Chuck is a neat guy, a Veteran of Vietnam. I met him when we worked together at Church on RCIA (people joining the Church) in 1989. He is now a Deacon as well as co- owner of the shop.
