Kwan Dao specs
Does anyone know of a resource that would have specifications that a blacksmith could use to make a historically accurate Kwan Dao.
I have been looking on line with no luck.

Well I lifted the one in Luoyang at White Horse temple where GuanGong is supposed to be buried. It was about 9.5 feet tall & about 85 lbs. I'm thinking there was a little bit of "legendary" put into it.
Check with somebody like Scott Rodell (Chinese Sword specialist). He might be able to point you in the right direction. Personally, my run of the mill Green Dragon one is plenty heavy for what it's used for... which isn't fighting day to day.Message: Due to the ongoing Recession, God has decided the light at the end of the tunnel will be shut off due to power costs. Probably "lead-gendary". Just to put things in perspective a steel plate 3/8 inch thick x 10 inches wide, by 80 inches high would weigh just about 85 pounds.
The reasearch I have done so far suggests the heaviest Kwan Daos were no more than 20 pounds with the average weighing between 12 to 14 pounds and 7 to 8 feet tall.
A guy in my class nearly lost the blade during a form. The shaft cracked. He is dead set on getting a real but unsharpened weapon. I have a friend who is a blacksmith that specializes in weapons. We'll see if my classmate wants to pay for the real thing.
I'll look Scott Rodell up, thank you.

Nah... the whole thing was 85 pounds. Head, shaft, bottom piece.
It's not going to much more than that I would assume.
Dang... that could be a room clearing event to say the least!!
yeah... He's my guess as a best bet for info on classical CMA bladed weaponry, especially hand held blades. I'm willing to bet if he doesn't know personally, he knows who does.Message: Due to the ongoing Recession, God has decided the light at the end of the tunnel will be shut off due to power costs.
